I bought mine at Speedway motors....worked just fine for installing my 59 AB in my 33 ford chassis after building mount brackets taken from av8's book. 2X3 box tubing works well here.

"what they would of used in the 40"s" They would have just used original '32 V8 mounts--all flatheads have the holes for them. They require a little grinding to clear later pulley setups.
Only problem is they're now extremely scarce and pricey. MEC reproduces them.
Factoid: Only the very first and very last flatheads used those block mount holes--they were empthy from early '33-52.

The early alternative would probably have looked a good deal like A-V8's mounts in the how to book or a welded in version of the olde Hurst A-28 mounts made for '28-34 Fords, BUT the big difference from my observations of ancient features and pictures is that no one used standard pieces of new steel from a metal shop. Everything was cut and altered fron junkyard bits like model T frame channel or such. I bet F-1 frame mounts would be agood start.
