There's a dude at work who's got a 2.2 that put his turismo (85) in the 15's or so, unturboed. Anyways, the car is a goner and he said he'd pony up the engine. It's built, TurboII parts and whatnot.
Here's the question... can it be adapted to RWD? Like a Dakota bellhousing or something? Seems like it'd be a perfect motor for a modified or something small.
Any ideas?
And no Greg, you can't have it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There is probably a reason those motors never caught on.

Seems to me the real early Dakotas had the 2.2 but I dunno if it was a different block. I believe the back of the block and crank was the same at FWD but not sure about side mounts and starter provisions....
My kid had a turbo Shelby Charger with 5 speed that ran 14's...he had more fun with racing SCCA events...

Yeah, he's got a Lancer that'll run low 13's, with the air on and stuff. It's won him some money, them Mustang types can't believe it when their doors are blown off by an ugly ass 4 door with half the cylinders... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Thanks for the tip Rocky, I thought the same, but never really looked into it.
Thanks too Ian, for pointing out the obvious. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif But according to Hack, it's gotta be infinitely better than a Stovebolt! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm pretty sure I remember the Dakota transmission could be coupled to these engines for RWD applications.
Personally, I love turbo Dodges. They are dead easy to work on.
Slide on over to Turbo Dodge Forum Board (http://www.turbododge.com) for the full story on these things.

Yeah, me too. I love Donovan's 9 second turbo Reliant. That, sir, is a money winner. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Geez, anoter weird-ass idea to add to. I love this place!!!!
The crank will need to come out to bore a bigger pilot hole. Then bolt her up to a Dakota 2.2 trans (87-88 I believe) This subject was recently covered on either Dakota.com or AllPar forums.

As far as that goes, aren't most of the 2.2 and 2.5 stuff interchangable? If nothing else you could bolt all the goodies onto a dakota block or something, and not have to worry about mating it to a tranny http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
