Krupa is close to getting his '51 Chevy on the road. It's time for exhaust, but we are looking for driver's side rear dump exhaust manifold for a small block chevy. It has the stock steering so the manifolds that dump between the last two cyliders dumps right into the drag link. Block huggers appear to be even worse. What did you guys use? I'm sure this problem has been solved a million times already....and recently in Mark-x's shoebox.

Ha Ha...I just dropped a little ol' 60 degree 2.8 V6 into my 49...was wondering about exhaust clearance myself! (No manifolds or headers at this point...I'm not that far yet!)
I really wanna see a V8 49-52 Chev in person...I don't think it's POSSIBLE! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
On my 54 I used the REAR dump cast manifolds. I think they were off a 72ish Nova? Some versions have lots of holes for smog crap, mine didnt. I can take a pic iffin ya need? I had to grind a smidge off the frame or firewall support?

If you use an "under the plugs" 350 it dumps at the#5 cyl....slice it and tilt the outlet back [and in] a little then re-weld....[nickle rod]........you'll be flyin clear then!

I managed to make a pair of mid eightys GM pickup manifolds work...they kinda favor the rams horns cause they are over the plug types. To make the drivers side fit, I cut about 2 inches out of the dump and angled it back a little...there is plenty of clearance for the steering and the dump puts the exhaust pipe in a good location, the passenger side fit with no problem. The only problem that I did run into, is that my engine block is a drivers side dipstick and the manifolds are for passenger side dipstick...the dump on the drivers side is right over the dipstick hole in the block http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

The ones we used on MarkX's car were just laying there in
the shop. I am not sure anybody knows where they came
from. I will try to find out though.
I think Outlaw used 99 Blazer headers.

Some one wanna yell "shoe sale" or something to distarct my wife while I steal the manifolds off her truck? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

well the 72 0r 73 74 nova manifolds fit great with out a problem.. sanderson also makes a headers that will clear prefect with out any problems there a little pricey, however they work great... on one of my 53's i bought 4 sets of manifolds before i found the right pair.
