Hi Guys,
Need some help with some art work and lettering I want to apply to my ride. I can't source one shot at all anywhere. I was wondering if there is an equivilant... would a water based gloss acrylic be ok? Or those little tins of model paints?
Thanks for helping out, its much appreciated.

Hey Danny! Check your local hardware store for alklid enamel paints. Oil based, not latex. It is good for practice. My old friend Rustoleum oil base,is just as good, until you can get some real live Oneshot. IMHO Glenn

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the quick replies - if that particular enamel isnt available, will any oil based enamel be ok? I'm looking at practising on some MDF sheets first anyway, just wanted a paint that gives a solid, glossy coverage.
Thanks again!

Probibly be ok. Put a little on the lid, or palette, and let it get a little"sticky". That's the way I do it. clean your brushes in napatha. Mineral spirits(regular paint thinner) is too oily. Glenn

Where do Whodaky and Brootal get their 1-Shot ?
If necessary, send an email to 1-shot to find out who carries it down under.

I haven't started striping (yet), although I plan to.
Ask Carps where he gets his. I was talking to him recently and he said it was amazing the difference using One Shot made. Before that he was just using any old enamel.
There's a place up here in Sydney that sells it, I'll see if I can find out their contact details.
Here you go mate. If you can't find any in sunny Melbourne, try here...

I've got to head out there one day and pick up some Mack blades and One Shot. If Carps can do it, anyone can! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There is no substitute for 1-Shot. If your gonna paint on your ride, go the extra mile and use 1-Shot. Check out any Sign Writers in your area. I'll bet they help ya if you explain your situation.
2 cents worth. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Solvers Brite Glow, I get it at a local place here . billy. Model paints are not the best for exterior work. Ask Carps where he got his One Shot. I did buy One Shot in Melbourne somewhere years ago, but can remember where. Geoff

Hey Billy, I can probably give you some from one of my cans if you don't need much. There's only a couple of places in Melbourne stock it and the one I found actually keeps it on the shelf is in Nunawading, in the street that runs off the Maroondah Highway down behind Bunnings (opposite the tojo Dealership). They also stock a couple of other brands of less expensive signwriters enamels but agree with me that there's no substitute for genuine One Shot.
Like I said, if you don't need much and I already have the right colour, then all ya need is an empty can. Or if you need a small amount of a colour I don't have, maybe we can split the cost and the paint. It's around 30+ bucks a quarter gallon can and they only carry quarter and half gallon cans, unless you want white which they have in gallon cans too. They do stock the Pearls in the smaller half pint cans.
As for reducing the stuff, I've found using one shot reducer gives the best results. Go figure. Again I can probably give you a small quantity if small is all you need. Cleanup etc. is done with mineral turps.
drop me a PM, email or call me at the office and we can make the arrangements.

Where did the idea that one shot is super expensive come from? It really is no more expensive than any high quality enamal. Red Devil enamal sells at K Mart for $4.95 per half pint can. Not a lot different. Some colors are higher but you get what you pay for. I order mine from Mr. Art. Have had good service.

There's still the issue of getting it from the US to Oz, can't send solvent based product in mail and most carriers can't ship it as small parcel because the airlines won't take solvent based or highly famable items on their planes, for obvious reasons.

It's imported to Australia and therefore comes with the addition of import duties, shipping and associated costs etc.
A quart can of high quality enamel manufactured locall would cost about $7 to $10 Aussie dollars, Same size can of One Shot is around three times the price.
