I picked up the housing in the pics below from an estate sale. Looks to be in great shape, but the problem is that I don't have a clue as to what it fits on!
It has 28 tooth splines with an inside diameter (minor diameter of the spline) of 1.125". The ring gear would be held on with (10) 3/8" bolts and the O.D. (ring gear bore) is 5.000". The bearing journal diameter is 1.625" and the overall length is 7-3/8".
Cast into the back face is "PAT NO. 821096" and stamped on the back face is the number "102".

Anybody got an idea of what this would be used in??
Thanks for the help,

I showed it to Paul and he says it's a GM 10-bolt 3 series 8.2 posi. I looked them up on Ebay, but the housings they're selling look different, but maybe they're Eaton and mine is GM ??? I want to sell it to get a little scratch towards my new rear suspension set-up for the Buford, but I need to identify it correctly. Anybody got different opinions of what it fits???? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thanks,
-Bob

Tag,
If it's an 8.2 for sure I could use it.

Bear in mind that there were two different Chevy 8.2's: the '55-64 drop-out's (which had the Powerlok posi's that bolt together with 8 bolts) and the '65-70 ones that took the Eaton-style units.

Moondisc, if it IS an 8.2, I'll get back to you first, before I list it. It LOOKS good, but I have no way to tell if it is or not. I don't see any signs of misuse or abuse. Like I said, I bought it at an estate sale, so I don't know any of the history behind it. I prolly should stop buying stuff that I don't what it fits!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
