View Full Version : Auctions to benefit the HAMB

OK...for those of you NEWBIE’s that don’t know HOW the HAMB works...here’s the deal—

Most times an AUCTION of some sort is happening on the HAMB...someone has something he/she doesn’t need/want/thinks will sell...and lists it on the HAMB for auction...bids are accepted for a pre-determined amount of time...when the auction is over...the “winner” sends his money to RYAN COCHRAN (owner of this site) to help pay for server expenses, electricity, site design, etc., etc. and etc. Then, when Ryan sez he got the money, the auction-holder sends the “prize” to the winner. NOW, ANYONE (NEWBIES included) can do this...and several of these at once is something that hasn’t happened for a while now...so it’s time!

As an aside to this auction deal...the 1948/2004 HAMB CALENDAR at the top of this page is part of this on-going expense-sharing deal...as an aside to that, there’ve been a lot of people involved (me included) in getting this HAMB calendar from nothing more than idea to this point...and it’s all VOLUNTEER...not one of us makes (made) any money from it.

The Calendar sales are like the above mentioned auction, the amount of calendars needed to be sold is 278...this will pay exclusively for printing...not one dime of that amount goes to The HAMB (or Ryan)...so, that said, it means we need to sell many more than 278 to make any money for RYAN/The HAMB. Every calendar sold over the 278 break-even point means RYAN gets money to help run this place!

So, the HAMB lists 3,570 registered users...(THAT’S THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY people) and countless lurkers, we SHOULDN’T have any trouble selling 500/1000...or even 2000 CALENDARS...BUT, so far only about 170 of you have plunked down your money...that’s not even ten percent!!! What gives? I know money is tite rite now, but Christmas is coming—-gifts, huh?? Or nothing more spectacular than you and your pals hanging one in the shop/den/kitchen to show HAMB support. These 2004 calendars are TOP-NOTCH...great photos, great striping, great copy, excellent paper/printing...besides, have you priced calendars at your local newspaper/magazine outlet? Why not support the place you hang-out every day. It didn’t cost you any money to register/join, did it...or even LURK? EVERYONE needs a calendar (except “Greaseball,” yet even he bought one!!!). Why not support the HAMB?

You can PAYPAL for your calendar(s) at the page pinned above...or send a check or money order to Denise (Hotrodladycrusr), her address also at the page pinned above.

Bottom line here: IF only 278 calendars are sold...WE (you, I and everyone else on here) won’t be able to give Ryan a dime beyond that to keep this place running...we need to sell 500...do I hear 750??

And for those that have already order their calendars... THANK YOU.

To those that don't plan on ordering, or are going to wait awhile.... don't come crying to me when they are all gone. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif There will only be a certain amount printed, like the HAMB Drags t-shirt, and when they're gone, they're gone.

Trust me, they are way too cool to last long. You snoooze, you loooooze, and I'm not going to feel bad. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I know exactly what is going to happen. As soon as everyone starts getting their calendars and posting how cool they are, everyone's going to try to get one, but there won't be any left.
PLAN AHEAD, Fellas. Don't come whining when you don't have a present to open on Christmas morning!!!!

Hey, is that 170 people placing orders or 170 calendars ordered? I ordered two and I know others ordered multiple copies as well...

Regardless, this is one of the coolest calendars I've seen, period. Think about it: Do you really want to go through 2004 with some landscape-photo-encrusted Hallmark thing your aunt gave you for Christmas?

Go to the calendar thread at the top of the page. In the first post by Ryan is a link to the site.

Well said Roger. Something else to keep in mind... We're printing 500 of those calendars. About 75 (+/-) are unavailable for purchase. So don't procrastinate.

Zonkola,
As this thread was put up this morning, only 170 Calendars had been sold...and yes, there were several people that ordered/bought more than one...

However, the number sold still leaves about 100 to sell just to pay for the printing alone...Ryan isn't getting any money until it reaches the magical 278 sold point.

Buy now, but often. I did!

I ordered my two, but a true business peson would get on there and buy a few dozen, then, when all of the calendars are gone, aution 'em off on eBay to the poor fools who didn't think ahead...

Come on people - give the HAMB a hand.

I think it is pretty sad that only 170 calenders have been ordered, especially when those that have ordered probably have ordered more then one...
