I've had this picture of my grandfather for a couple years. It was taken when he was stationed in Africa in '58. My Dad just gave me the trophy that's in the picture. He found it in an old box and knew I would appreciate it.Thought it was worth sharing. The plate reads:
The Seferian Trophy
Kagnew Automobile Club
Fastest Volkswagen ------- 500 Meter Drags
Time-25 Seconds
Oct. 5, 1958 East Africa

That should have a place of honor somewhere in your house. If you are like me I cherish the memories of my grandfather.

Not everyone has a photo to go with a family racing trophy, you are very lucky. Thanks for posting that.

I couldn't wait to find a good place for it. I'm glad my Dad took the time to dig it out.

Sorry about the size. I'll shrink them next time. Thanks for not giving me hell about the type of car, too.

Give you hell about the type of car!!!?? No way man, it's super cool to have racing in your blood. My dad and uncles were into cars and motorcycles, and I wouldn't trade the stories and memories for anything.

Didn't the Beatles write a song about the number in the window of that auto.

That's pretty cool.
I don't think I even have any of my own trophies and don't even think about any of my ancestors'.
You ought to make sure that that goes to the next generation of rusty210s.

I was thinking that. I've got a bunch of shots of my father racing in the 50's... but he's driving MGs and Porsches, so I always figured no one here would give a shit. He had to ditch all his trophies during a move.

Cool bit o' memorabilia there. Blistering ET too (500m is about 1/3mi). http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
