it's almost a brand damn new computer, but theres 3 different people using it on different profiles. For some reason I can't log on to msn explorer, check my e-mail through hotmail, log onto my bank's website, I can't do almost anythign that requires that net passport thing, and some sites that don't even require that. I did a virus scan and there was ALOT of bad shit on the harddrive, but I got rid of it all (all 55 of em'). It still won't work though, I tried a system restore and nothing. Anyone here know what to do or what else to try?

Have you got Cookies enabled ?
Alot of sites require Cookies to be enabled for them to work properly.
Which means your machine will collect LOTS of Cookies.

As part of rountine maintainance,
I delete all Cookies, run Spy Bot and remove any Spy Ware it finds, then run Disc Defrag.

I'll bet its XP home version, the wife was having gobs of trouble with her xp home version so I formatted it and installed xp pro,

I don't know anything about how them different profile things work but maybe check the admin profile maybe that one is not allowing some stuff to be used by the other users?

i am the admin, and I'm the only one here who uses hotmail or msn explorer, so this isn't affecting anyone but me. I hate using internet explorer....

Ok.. sounds to me like your profile is either corrupt, you're using someone elses, or yours is gone for some reason (deleted by someone else while they were logged on)

This solution is based on assumptions, BUT.. I am assuming you log into your pc with a user name. If so, when you did a profile was created under that user name. Your profile is located here: C:\documents and settings\your username.

You'll also see

administrator
all users

and whomever else logs into the pc. Look for your user name here as well. Do you see 2 of yourself? Possibly one with a .OOO at the end? If so....... next assumption

Log into the computer as the administrator, or someone with administrator priveliges.

Go into c:\documents and settings
RENAME (right-click, choose rename on the folder) your folder AND the .OOO one. Call it anything you want, it doesn't matter.

Log off the PC. Log back in as yourself. Now, since you renamed your old profile(s) the computer will create a brand new one for you.

NOW- Here's the fun part. Once your profile is created, LOG OFF again, and LOG BACK IN as the administrator.

Go back into c:\documents and settings, and then into your old profile (the original one, NOT the one w/the .OOO at the end) and copy the COOKIES, FAVORITES, and DESKTOP folder from that profile, INTO your shiny brand new one..

REBOOT, log in as yourself... problem solved.

maybe.

Good luck my friend..

STOP using IE, download Mozilla Firefox

I'll second that! Popup blocking that works...tabbed browsing...now the Windows people can have what we have had on the Mac for years! And it *seems* faster than IE.

The link for those interested...

Make a new Admin profile and log into that. Try MSN and the other crap. If it works then you have a bad profile, you can just ignore the bad one and use the new one.
