i've never attempted this before, so i don't know, and shame on me if i don't ask, right?
is it even possible to put a 'modern' 12 volt car audio unit in a car with a 6 volt electrical system (without converting the whole car to 12 volt)? if so, what's involved? someone must have come across this already...
ANY help would be appreciated!

tred.

it the car negative or positive ground?? that matters you would need to change the 6 volt positve to negative ground and then use the converter to get 12 volts ,simple enough and of course to do that you just switch the amp guage wires to the oposite side and the cables on the battery and go from there if you arte running a generator it would need to be excited to negative ground ,hope it aint over your head!!!

Most heater/fan motors would turn backwards, some gauges may work improperly depending on type...

You could use a floating 12V conversion - may be a bit tricky depending on the mounting of the radio...

Put a 12V battery in the back and use it for the radio. Just have to charge it every so often. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
