I'm finishing up a big block swap in my 70 model parts hauler Chevy truck. I noticed that someone had replaced the fusible link with a piece of normal wire. These trucks only used 1 link for the whole power system. Of course no parts guys know which one to use either.
How can I select the right size fusible link to put in?

If it was me,I'd use a fuse and fuse holder....one of those newer style, LARGE ones.
Prolly about a 30 amp slo-blo.
Check with your local chebbie dealer on the proper size.

A fuesable link is normaly 2 sizes(in wire guage) smaller that the circit it is protecting. So if it was a 10 guage wire say to the starter it would drop to a 14 ga. fuseable link.

A thinner wire in the middle of what you are using. That way the burn will occour there first.

a maxie fuse (super size fuse) http://www.bluesea.com/product.asp?Product_Id=26376&d_Id=7463&l1=7463&l2= you can get them at just about any parts house & they are using them instead of fuseable links in some of the late model cars & truck. thats what I would use cause it would be much easier to change if ya ever have to do it again.....joe
