Washed the primer and tuned the 65 FE 4 spd today, took it down to Chevron to get a full tank of 92...the weather is perfect, sun shining,couldnt ask for a better day when i spotted a potential victim to the land yacht.Looked to be a like a 2000 or 2001 Mustang GT they all look the same to me... I had to pass a few cars to catch up to him..after some manuevering I pulled along his 9 o clock dropped it into 2 and played what i call touch and go...I got no response>>?? Wtf?!..being the shit disturber I am,I kept fuckin with him...still nothing..What a pussy!!Just when I was going to pull a U turn.. WHAM! he nails it...now thats more like it!!!, the Stang was getting it on too man!!,and I was feeling a little moted(an 80's term)I was caught between some slow asian,an kept missing red light chances...When he turned right and I followed.Come on come on ...Fuck!! YES! finally!! I caught a red light and we lined up side by side..Man i have this 390 tuned,the timing is advanced too the max,and the idle is a little too high..oh shit this T-10 better not miss 3rd or pop out of gear..Shit I gotta fix that soon...I R it up,Dont have a tach so I dont know the RPM but I'm where I need to be..He's ready too...oh fuck this is cool as hell...GREEN LIGHT!!! Dump that Fuckin clutch!! Right 215/70/15 tire is Fuckin blazing... shit!! Hook up motherfucker!! he's gone... hole shots me big fuckin time..Throw it into 2nd and grab a mean ass scratch,(Damn that was cool)hes still way out in front...Fuckin moment of truth the 3dr gear shift..come on bitch come on I miss this gear and its all over...I throw it up to 3rd as hard as I could,yes!!!Were GOOD!!I hold the shifter in the 3rd gear position so it dont pop out.. my hands are sweaty,fuck!! I hate this shift knob,Its Gay!!! now I start to pull up tom him...yeah bitch your mine now... 3rd gear is tall and the 390's rollin ...Were both moving at some speeed,I have no speedo either..Shit this lights gonna go red...Fuck it!! hes still on it and a good car length on me Were going through the light...Oh shit this s nuts!! Man, they never built a muscle car in the day that has it on new muscle...pure and simple. 1/4 times on new cars blow away the classics.

I love the classics and the real muscle cars, but hell I can't tell you how many mags have compaired the greats with the new iron and the new iron wins...pure and simple.

Sure some guys have some modified hot rodded cars that eat ricers, stangs, and so on...but on average most classic muscle cars with the simple standard bolt ons have real trouble with the newer cars.

I still to this day remember back in the 80's when I had my 69 GTO Judge and one of the closest races I ever had (at the track thank you) was with a damn 87 GNX...with my gears and all my mods that thing was on me so hard that I damn near tore that car up beating that dang Buick...

Jump to today and as fast as those GN's and GNX's were they have a hard time with the last F bodies and some stangs with mods today.

A guy in Dallas that hung on the DFW stang net (the biggest board in the area for the nuts, want to be's, and real street and strip types) had a GN that was a legend at the local tracks and even he sometimes would get blasted by a 5.0, 4.6, or some form of F body...and sometimes a big block chevy would beat him.

The new cars off the bat have a lot going for them and are alot easier to work with in many ways

My 04 Mach 1 would have it all over most big block boats...hell, I have a 62 with a 409 and one of those back in the day was only good for high high 12's or 13's with a ton of money in them...hell Dyno Don won it all with a 12.84 if I remember right. That time is some super simple back yard bolt ons for a f body or stang.

My dads best buddy has a original pretty much stock 66 Fairlane GT with a 390 and a stick and on its best day it could not take my Mach.

Not to be picking on ya Marcus, but I gotta call BS on beating the GT with your car unless it was a numbnut kid with a auto.

I like FE's, just like I love W blocks...but they are freaking boat anchors in many ways.

Just looking at the picture of your car and the rubber on back and I don't see that thing doing much more than 16 in the 1/4 unless you have some serious bucks in that mill...and traction is out of the question.

That thing would take a bit o time to get to 100...a GT would be gone...

ill have to chime in for this one. im in no way against street racing but thats cause im 23 and still dont know any better. i liked the story. and i belive it. my civic is down a few cars ona stangs untill i hit third. best damn gear in a honda. any way i street race often and ive been to the strip. the strip is for sure more fun. but the rush of a outa the blue race is lotsa fun too. i hardley ever go past 4grand in 3rd on a street race, by then its clear who won. but i guess im a dumb ass for thinking the way i do. or i just have yet to see the end results of a race gone wrong. but im sure i will some day. no matter how much every one may preech its not you in that driver seat and its not you that has to deal with the guilt if some one fucks up.but hell people die at the drag strip all the time. nothing is perfect. sure doing 100+ on city streets puts you at risk. but hell your going to go some time right? whos to say when.......

Ahhh, I just jumped in because I don't believe he took down a late model stang with that car. I got a buddy with a super slick 390 car and it is a cool car but it aint that fast. (for one thing, I was shocked when I helped him pull the intake off his 390 and the thing I swear weighed 100 pounds...the weight alone on his car is massive)

Plus, I have a stang habit...sorry, I know many feel they are girly cars...and I know from the years of being around those guys and such that the 390's and the Boss 429's were never that awsome (in general) and it was the high rev Boss 302's, later 302's and the 351's that turned stangs around and the monsters were the drag pack cobra jet cars that even when new the magazines and such were saying that they turned better times the the Boss big block.

But in many ways the Ford FE thing is like the Hemi vs. the 440 arguments...I know many people that say the 440 six pack cars had it all over the Hemi's back in the day. My old man swears up until the late model stuff he has had that the fastest car he ever owend was a stripper Plymouth with a 440 six pack and that cool pistol grip shifter.

It is like reading the SRT4 forum and the crazy kill stories you read on that...a stage one SRT4 taking down a Z06 or something...

I don't think that car could take my daily driver out...be cool if we were in the same state and could go to the local track but we aint....
