I just picked up a '76 El Camino SS this weekend from a local High School (their project car). How do I ID the small block and the tranny (newly rebuilt)?

Id'ing the engine theres some numbers behind the drivers side valve covers,they're pretty good size you can almost read them like brail http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

aftr you get the cast number go to MORTEC and you will find out everything you want to know. I hope this helps.
