Hey HAMBers!
Just got in from a long day of car stuff. I picked up my '65 T-Bird earlier today. I actually drove it home! The car sat for 14 months, had a flat tire and three low ones and I still managed to get her home.
I started off by only paying 700 bucks (He was asking 800..still a good deal.) Then proceeded to get the car running and moving again. He threw in a box-O-stuff (tm) that was pretty cool too. In that box was a bunch of the original paperwork, including a hand signed letter from Lee Iococca dated December 7th, 1964. The letter thanks the original owner ( A woman from California ) for purchasing the car. Its not even yellowed! There was also a giant brochure on Ford styling, and the original build ticket. It appears that the car came from California after having two owners. Each kept records of everything including Emissions tests and registration cards. All were found in the box! The car came to Delaware in 1991. At that time it only had 56K original miles! The car now has 80K original!
I think I may leave this one alone... Or do very mild custom work.. What you think?

If you decide to put wheels on it, those factory spinners, if nice - are worth some serious money, as in maybe $300-400. Need any parts, lemme know, I have access to some stuff.
Someday I want to build a '66 TBird with the blind quarters and put a '65 front clip on it and suede it, make it look like the car in that movie, "THE CAR". http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Super nice find for $700!

And thank god there isn't a cure for it! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Nice score spike. Boy thats a hard question if you should do something to it, it does look pretty nice. Maybe a set of bellflowers, some astro supremes, and some pinwhites. Maybe a couple scallops. keep us updated, later plmczy

I really like those cars w/ the old Radir's and pinner whites. Maybe a flaked roof too.
The neat thing about going the above route is that you could easily go back to stock to sell it.
Real nice score man. Greatest ass-end ever put on a car, IMHO.

Nice score Spike. I'm not really sure if I would mess with it or not...I probably would. And then I would have two Ford products that run for shit.
But just remember to always, Always, ALWAYS keep the windows down to let the gayness out. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I tell ya what... I'll give ya $750 for it... Nice score.
It's screaming for a fogged panel job. Like Marcus's brother's (or whoever the hell it actually belonged to) was supposed to look.
I have one just like that...Wimbledon White with a Black interior...those spinners are nice and worth a bit in good condition. With those cars I am of the opinion that anything you could do to it would make it not as nice.....but thats just me. I feel some cars are just about right the way they were made.

Very nice score, and I'm not even a real big Thunderbird fan. I would have bought it for that price.
Here is all I would do to it: lower front about 2 inches to match the already sagging rear leafs. Astro Supremes (or Radirs) with skinny whites. Maybe a little tasteful pinstriping, not so much it detracts from the basic car. Buff the original paint out so it's nice and shiny.

Nice Score. Welcome to the YA YA T-Birdhood.
With my wife's `59 I have found that by taking off the trim, steering wheel, doorhandles, wheels/caps and eBaying them, it has paid for all the mild Kustom stuff we have done.

I just found out that the hubcaps ( deluxe wheel covers with the big spinners ) are probably worth what I paid for the car alone. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to leave it alone and just drive it. Its just too nice and well documented to do anything else. It may get a new paint job in the original color at most. By keeping it original and selling it down the road when I'm done driving it, I can buy something already done, or finance a project that isn't going to hurt a clean collectable car.
I read through all the paperwork that came with the car, and near as I can tell it has had only three owners.
1) Welda Wotherspoon from Walnut Creek/ then Santa rosa California - december 1964- 1975
2) William and Jaqueline Elich- Santa rosa California- 1976-1991
3) 1991- Came to Delaware (which is where I found it) with only 56,000 miles on the odometer
Tonight I got the drivers side windows working. Tomorrow I tackle the other two.
Options include- Fender skirts, deluxe caps, deluxe side view mirror. I'm learning more every day!

Paint it yellow with red scallops http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
