View Full Version : Pics of a Blue Touring.got it painted today!
Been a long time coming. Today I got paint on the T. Did OK for my first paint job in 15 years. It will need some colorsanding and buffing..........I screwed with the adjustments on the gun when it "seemed" to be acting up and got a little orange peel http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Never could get it adjusted back! Oh well, it looks good, $50 worth of Industrial Single stage urethane.
First pic is before the final wetsand. I shot the wheel arch with paintable undercoating. The bottom of the car has the same stuff in black to show off the light blue frame.

The color matches your shaved roadie legs.......
but other than that it looks great. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
My boss scoffed at light blue when I told him about the choice.....................but he cant get into the Roadster show like I can now! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif At least my car is shiny, kinda like my shaved Roadie legs.

You're really crankin' now. Lookin great.
Looks close to the Bill "Bill's Eye View" Burnham blue Bill had on his roadster.

Lookin'good man! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Yeah Doc, it is real close to Burnhams color, also Claptons Roadster that was in TRJ.
The motor and interior will be bright red. Wheels are painted white with red/silver flake. It is getting a 348 Tripower with a Powerglide and 3.89 gears.
Here is the coated bottom that will contrast with the blue frame.
BTW, anyone know a good way to remove overspray? I got a bit on my dads 2003 F250 SuperDuty.....bright red http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well, you said you were gonna paint it blue and that mo-fo's blue alright! I like it but will reserve final judgement 'till I see it all finished with a nice HAMB sticker on it.... Looks like you did a lotta blocking on it before spraying, by the photos..
as far as your dad's overspray problem? Fix it with twentys...

A clay bar will probably nix the overspray--always works for me---but don't wait too long http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Lookig good trent!!! I like that color blue and the red should be a nice contrast. Bitchin engine to use also. What kinda interior you gonna go with?? Something tuck and rolled??
Red Tuck and roll Andy. I have some little 60s lookin buckets that willl sit in it. I am thinking of a bomber type seat but the 60s showcar bucket would fit it better. Low back of course.

Looking good...you gonna have it at Mokan this year? I second Mr. Scheib's vote on the clay bar for the overspray...those things work wonders.
Brian
The goal is MOKAN, the car has been fully assembled before paint. I gotta keep working..........

What a novel idea - a nicely-finished painted car that isn't flat black. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I never did hear the story of where you scored the body? I have always wanted a "family T". That's why I ditched the last one.....no room. KNow where they are any more?
The body came from a ranch up by the rez in North Central Sodak. I paid $100 for it. My pal Tim clued me into it..he took the best body and cut it up for a Mod http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif I got the rear doors off his!

Looks similar to the color I used on my truck. PPG Big League blue single stage. Sadly, mine cost slightly more than that!

If you were a real roadie you would have tipped a bit of green into the mix and squirted it Celeste. Looks good.
I forgot about your truck being blue Plowboy! Now that you mention it, it does kinda look the same.
Grim, my Bianchi aint even Celeste!

VERY NICE!! Good choice on the color. I can picture it done in my head-but I'm looking forward to seeing it in person. (watch out for the 3.89 gears for the 348--they don't like high RPMs in stock mode.) overspray
Thanks overspray! I used your tech info as a refresher on my paint skills. I guess it looks much better today, I have yet to get to my folks place and see it. Paint layed down nicely as it dried. The holes in the frame were the only place it wanted to build up and run. Had to hit a couple spots with the good ol masking tape.
I didnt think I would feel like I needed the interior this summer but now I want to see the red and blue together.

That is looking great - now I wish I was a lot further on mine. Did you cut the rear support out of the front seat. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif That is typically full ht. Looking for ideas on mine. Did you move that section back any. Friend told me to move mine back 3" to gain leg room.
Also that chassis is rockin' - great job. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Get yourself some Bill Burnham shorts and sandals to go with that paint. "Did 'ol grandad ever own a pair of real shoes? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Lou King Goude
Stoggie, yes I cut the seat back short. It has a beadline rolled into the bottom to match the one at the rear of the body that I added. Seating will be 60s style showcar buckets. The cut divider will allow me to get to items out on the road, food, CDs etc. Their is no rear seat, 9" kickup with a 17 gal tank and an optima battery took all that space. The rear will be covered by a tonneau cover.
I like it a lot.
The wife keeps bugging me to paint something baby blue, but I'm a tough rad rodder, I can't let that happen.

Orange Peel = Wet Sand.....Patience Grasshopper.
Actually the paint layed out pretty good as it dried. It will take a lot less sanding than I thought. I would have responded yesterday but found out my keyboard does not like beer http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Hey T, nice job on the firewall, looks like it came that way. You going to have it done a couple weeks before the HAMB drags, right???
Thanks Tom, the firewall gives me warm fuzzies http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looks great Tman!
Don't wait on the color sanding. Urethane is a bitch to sand & buff if you wait too long.
My brother had a brand new 62 Stude covert that same blue with red interior. Those colors look great together.
I'd rethink those gears. 348's are truck motors, and don't like R's.
That plus all that torque in a light car, you can get away with a lot less gear.

I have always likes powder blue/ skyblue whatever you want to call it. Its foing to look sharp sitting on that frame!
Cody
Thanks guys, should be ready to do the motor by this weekend. As for the gears, no worries. I am running a pretty tall tire that will cancell out some of the gear. If I end up no liking it I will build another center section with hiway gears.
