I have this '29-'30 1 1/2 Ton Chevy truck that I want to use to make a woodie but, right now my problem is getting it the 10 miles home. It has a 6-lug wheels up front-not a problem. It's the rear end that's got me stumped. It has 10-lugs wheels on it. Plus it's a closed rearend and the trans is stuck. I tried to put air in the back tires and they did hold it for a while. I'm open to any and all ideas. Here's a picture of it and my son.

T..
its 1230 am and I about to crash so I might not be thinkin clearly.. but in a similar situation I would be forced to ask myself If I needed a 1.5 ton truck chassis at my house...
after such question was answered I would most likely begin dissassembling the sheetmetal from the chassis and leave whatever I didnt need behind.. (or call the local scrap guy to have him remove the rest.)
i doubt that you would build a woodie that big anyhow so your most likely not gonna need that chassis or suspension anyhow..
good luck keep us posted on your woodie progress.
PS are you a NWC member?
just start dragging that muther!
when i was a young probably 12 or so, my dad bought an old school bus ten miles up the road, chock full of old car parts, it was heavy as sin, flat tires, stuck axles, the whole works. just hooked on with the old farmall tractor, yanked it out of its holes, and proceeded to drag that thing down the road as-is! guess who got to try to steer? ever try to steer a school bus with one stuck front wheel, and a couple of flat tires? ain't easy! luckily the stuck wheel broke loose shortly after hitting the pavement.
nope, i ain't much help! bet bet is call a rollback to come do the dirty work for you, call AAA and tell them you broke down!

Surely you thought of a trailer???It doesnt matter if the rear wheels roll. Pour motor oil on the ramps and winch it on

You could maybe find a way to lock the steering, and winch it onto a dolly and tow it backwards, with the fronts on the road? Also could bite the bullet and get a rollback, they can winch it on and slide the tires. Once it's home get (or make) some of those little caster dollies, put one under each rear tire until you get it freed up.
At least you just have to move it 10 miles, the soon to be mine A coupe is in Minnesota!
Just suggestions, good luck!

Sawzall nailed it.
Take that mutha apart. If you don't already have a set of torches, now is a good time to get some. Get a set of those cheapy portable bottle ones and have at it. With the torches, you can even cut the frame down into manageable chunks (if you want to use parts of the frame).
Let us know how it turns out. The woody is a good idea. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You could disconnect the drive shaft.. just a thought..

Sawzall / Von Tingler: That's the most logical thing to do and what I will probably do
Ray: Don't think the state or conuty boys would like me after that, but it would look funny and make a good story!
Manyolcars: Only buddy that has a big enough trailer won't let anyone haul anything but lumber on it. I guess there was some "lumber" in it a long time ago!
Kentucky: This actually was on the top of my list of ideas, but i would then think "do I really need a locked up 1.5 ton rearend in the yard?" (hmmm yardart!)
Gege: Sounds like our minds think a like sometime!!
Tinyelvis: Have thought of this, but couldn't figure out how to disconnect it
Thanks for the ideas and will keep you updated. Any other ideas? T

Mine still has the Ton Frame under it.
So did this one in the pic. You just need to cut a few feet off of it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
That rear end will be a pain in the ass, I guarantee. You will need to move it around with a cherry picker or a tractor. I found some dude who was actually looking for one and let him have mine.

how are the rear axles attached ? if they are like the later truck axles they are a floating type. just remove the drive axle from the center hub and roll on the wheel bearings. or if not get a tow dolly under the rear wheels and drag it outta there.
get a trailer axle and unbolt the rear axle and drive tube.
bolt on the trailer axle and tow it home. i'm talking a mobile home trailer axle here.

rent a tow dolly -put it under the rear wheels and drive about 30 MPH so it wont whip and that will get it to your house -no further than that -it will be a breeze! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I'm with bigron on this. The roll back brings all my local junk home (and my drivers once in a while). LOL

Call any reputable tow company in the area.
Tie off the steering so its locked straight. A truck with a sling (straps) can hook that up and be in your drive-way in 30 minutes. No pain, no fuss, no tickets.
We would charge about 60 bucks around here for that.
Good luck.

If your wanting to save yourself the money on a tow, like I would, torch that muther. If anything, just torch the driveshaft in half. Thats if your wantinig to save the rest of it.
For some reason this came to mind......

Tow truck drivers love cash. Do not do this last thing as it is only for entertainment. if you have tow clause on your ins get a recipt and turn in like its your daily driver. Good Luck.........
