I have to start asking around in my work travels more.I'm afraid I might find too many though. It may double my time from home if I start doing that.I'll let you know if I find any hot-spots.

Hey there, Jeff! This is Jason we met again at York Nats.
Yea, well I'm not sure if this is "west" enough, but there's a yard out towards Bernville. Take Garfeild road back to Swissdale(first left) and follow it out, you cant miss it. I'd tell ya the name but I lost their business card.
Check out some pics, the yard (http://public.fotki.com/olskool37/)
oops I just caught PM part

I think that all of the old shit stays in their owners' garages, and then gets pulled out for the really big swap meets at Carlisle and Hershey or even (this was last week) the Pittsburgh Parts-O-Rama.
Western PA is also one of the rustier places in the world for cars. The winter freeze and thaw over and over, and we dump huge amounts of salt everywhere. (Except for the actual City of Pittsburgh, which is bankrupt and can't afford the salt.)
So, no, I don't think that there are any good boneyards around. I hope someone tells me otherwise!

I'll ask my dad. When he was a teen in the 50's, they used to raid a lot of yards in the general Pittsburgh area for parts on the cars the used to street drag. I'm sure he could give some ideas of good places to look. I imagine most have disappeared but I'm sure at least some remain.

I was told of one south of Pittsburgh in the West Newton/Rt. 136 area that is supposed to have some old stuff. I have not had the chance to ge yet. I think it is called Jaspers auto salvage, if i remember right. The place has some odd hours and you pull the stuff yourself.

Look Larry, when I have to take 30 WEST to your place, I consider that WESTERN PA. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif And Sawzall always has that Canadian buddy of his around (Tom Green) so I consider that Canada. I'm geographically challenged..

I am in western PA. For fun, check out Don's Auto Salavage in Ohioville, PA. The place is super unorganized but of good size, a fair bit of 1940s - 1960s cars, most very weathered. I was there this week and came across an unfinished project, a late 40s Plymouth with a nice Chop and a Nova subframe. You can also check out Ted's Auto Recycling on Lisbon Road, Ohioville. A super small yard that specializes in scrap - which means he buys a lot of old cars. About 5 years ago the place had almost primarily old cars, like Henry Js, 1950s Cadillacs, bathtub Ramblers, and a lot of unfinished projects. There are still some stuff out there.
Feezles Auto Salvage is in Enon Valley, PA. It's a late model yard thats organized and neat, but has about 3 rows of old stuff, a lot of the cars still have a lot of stuff on them, some cars are in fair shape.
Crows Run Auto Wrecking, I think it's in Freedom, PA. They have a good bit of mid 60s GM, especially Pontiacs. It's a horrible ride there with a road fit for 4X4 swampers!
I have also heard of Brown's Auto Salvage. I have never been there but supposedly there are a lot of old cars. I'd like to check it out sometime.
Most of these places are in SW PA, a few close to the Ohio border. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Post some 'rust in peace' sometime. Cool thread. Better than most T.V. and cable has to offer. Topic friendly too.

In Central PA, is Mt. Pleasant Mills Auto Wrecking still open? Haven't been there in years, but they had lots of 30s - 50s stuff at the time. It was near Selinsgrove Speedway.
