Take a look at the bike of the week on www.cyclerides.com.Kinda (http://www.cyclerides.com.Kinda) curious what the bike HAMBers think. If you read the copy that's with the pic,I'm the guy who built it back in the early 70s.Rode the shit out of it for several years, then parked it,pissed off at the 4th generator I'd put on it,got married to a wife that HATES bikes, had kids, and went back to playing with cars, with the bike parked in the garage under blankets for years. Those kind of years will pile up in a hurry. The guy who bought it is one of my best friends, and wanted it for years, just waiting for me to cave in.The reality is I wasn't riding it,always had the "one of these days I'm gonna go through it again" attitude. So maybe it was better to sell it to somebody who really wanted it,and, more important to me,somebody who would bring it back almost exactly like it was.Craig added a little chrome, did the dual plug thing, otherwise all my homemade parts are on it,the color is exactly like I had it.THE MORAL OF THIS SAD STORY????? I will die with the rest of my toys.Selling the bike convinced me that my kids will have to sell my shit,or whatever, after I'm gone.It went to the right guy,but damn,if I could do it over, that bike would still be mine.Sniff,sniff.The real moral of the story is I'm gonna look for another pan,if the wife doesn't like it,tough shit, won't be the first thing I've bought that pissed her off, won't be the last.Damn, the HAMB is better than therapy http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Really clean Panhead. Are those bosses on the frame down tubes for "highway" pegs? I remember them clamped on, but that's a clean detail the way the mount is molded in.

This started as a basket case when I was 17,and didn't know shit.First frame was ruined by an 'expert" welder. So was the 2nd.Different welder, same fucked up results.3rd frame had been cut apart with a hacksaw by somebody to stretch it,and I bought it in 2 pieces.By then,I was taking a welding course so nobody could fuck up my stuff anymore, except me,and we put slugs in the joints, lined it up,and welded the piss out of it.What you're seeing are mounts that I never intended to use,but used as a gusset, where the frame was put back together. After having 2 frames ruined,I decided to leave the big stretch shit to others,I wanted it simple, with a decent rake.Never had pegs there, just looks like that's what it's for.Raked the front end out 5/8 inch, and plated everything.Once I learned how to Tig,I went nuts. Most of the filled in area is metal, very little filler.Made Craig promise to not put gay highway pegs on it,either.

Cool man. Real cool. I tend to shy away from a lot of chrome and am a straight-up bobber guy, but that's a very clean and pretty pan.

Really represents the era well and I'm glad it went to a good home. You're fortunate to have a buddy who did you well.
