Now that my computer is virus free and up and running again ,thought i would tell all about the roadster show .For any who wish to read it anyway .We are trucking right along from AZ ,myself riddin shotgun, and Jerry drivin his black chevy pick-up .Everything going well until we hit the stopped traffic LITERALLY .Jerry's brakes go out.I remind him that people are stopped ahead .Jerry is grabbin everything but an ancor to get his rig stopped but no use , we smack a late model doin about 5-10 MPH .I see that it scratched the car we hit and also one small dent .Then i see that jerrys truck took the whole hit , pushing the grill ,hood in .Also see the trail of brake fluid where pulled off I-10 .I tell the old guy that was infront us , that we are stuck here and needed a tow , why dont you just exchange info and you could leave .As he squirrels away jerrys insurance card ,he exclaims," No your outta state we will wait for the cops" .Then gets his camera and starts snapping pixs .After an hour or so the CHIPS show up .Prob took them a while cuz we had traffic stopped w/ lookeyloos going both ways .The cops were very nice as jerry hands him expired registration and proof of insurance ,though all were up to date the paper work was not .The one chp officer says to jerry "whats with the garcia look ?is that intentional " AS we laughed .Someone post a splitscreen soon !Then i hear raised voices Turns out that jerry would not be getting ANY tickets and the driver we hit IS mad about that .The cop exclaims get in and leave before we give YOU tickets .The other driver leaves just as we get a tow .After about 6-7 miles we find a kragen and drop off the truck .Then pay the robber i mean tow driver .After looking and calling we finally "mainly jerry" find the correct brake line to replace the one that burst .Missing the SO-CAL open house and bobs bigboys cruz , we cut the losses and catch some ZZZ's .Arriving at the show , which was about the best one i have been to thus far , we tell the crash tale over n over . Funny how we were doing some nice speeds , good thing we only hit at 5-10 MPH .I met some great people and more hambers this year than ever .Also found alotta swapmeet goodies that i have been looking to get for YEARS now .I did end up getting a couple of Large items and some AZ people RON and his crew helped get home THANKS .Then Ron broke aswell on the way home ,lucky they had a 40' trailer .Funny as we drive in for sunday some guy sticks his head in the truck and says " you guys keep it slow w/ no brakes now "HAHAA me and jerry look at each other and both say who was that , i guess the story got told alright .For all you people sitting on the fence for next years show GET OFF THE FENCE and GO ! Even with the problems we had it was great !can not wait til next year .This is jerrys luck ,he gets an overinflated tow bill , then the next morning he looks through his stuff and finds a check for 5 bucks over that amount that he did not know he had . http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gifNext year JERRY i think you should carry a spare tire . http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

About 1/2 an hour before we were going at warp 5 .LUCKY ?I would say so , better to wreck at 5-10 mph than the higher speeds .Funny i did not even notice we did not bring a spare til we left on sunday .After lookin for 7+ years i FINALY got a sweeeeeeeet deck lid i needed .Not cheap but needed just the same.

Hey,
Nice meeting you guys, glad you got home OK, and found some stuff too. See ya next time!
I looked at Jerry's truck, I didn't see much damage at all.
You say "warp speed" but I say with the whole GARCIA LOOK thing, that maybe it was more like "MIND warp speed".
far out.

JEEM ,jerry and i fixed alot of it , looked worse at the scene .A hunk of wire is still holding the hood closed !That "mind" coment reminds me of cheech&chong when they are in the impala on the median . http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gifgroovy!We also got a U-haul transmission oil bath on the way home too .This guy drivin a u-haul truck must have thought it was the I-10 500 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif .That tranny blew up like a nascar racer too .
Glad you guys faired OK.
I thought, for sure, the weekend would be BLAZING HOT, not much cooler than Phoenix, but Man, it was SO NICE there! Was actually depressed to get back to the furnace, how 'bout you? Nice to be back with the wife and kids unit, but really.......

Wow, I can totally picture everything, the Jerry Garcia comment, the warp 5, and the check.
I'd also be willing to bet Jerry "The Swap Meet King" picked up a Ray Barton Race Hemi for $10. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The weather was great. I did not see you guys but after hearing the story from someone I looked at the truck walking by. Jerry is lucky, it could have been real bad. I also saw the bed of the truck plumb full of swap stuff!
I did see you guys fly by on the way back to AZ. Must have got everything fixed because I think it was back to warp speed.
Jerry showed me tha culprit.
It was one of them fancy schmancy braided steel hoses that just burst right through the side like a busted Pinata.
I'm pretty sure Jerry put a "regular" rubber hose back on it.

found a kragen parts store in fontana and did the job in thier parking lot, across fom the sign that says "no repair work in the parking lot."
friendly parts guy looking it p for me and let me go back and look thru the boxes of hoses. found one that would fit and bought 2 of them beauties! and yes they are the old style rubber flex hose!
and i was only doing about warp 4.9! i told you a million times not to exaggerate scooter!
was flying low prior to the "incident." slowing for traffic at about 25 when ehe hose let go. thank goodness for a dual master cylinder!
chp dudes were super cool about the whole incident. told the other guy to shut up or HE would get a ticket.
overall had a super time at the show. founsd some HRMX i needed for my collection, including a #1! about 15 of them for $50.
met quite a few H.A.M.B.ers there, can't remember names of most but was so good to meet you all.

Aye chinga! I'm glad that you guys are OK, and that you had a good time anyway.
For some reason I am reminded of a trip to Prescott in scooter's old Comet wagon..."It OK, your car old".

For the rest of you , what MIKE is talkin about is...
We were heading up to prescott northern arizona for a show and swap meet , in my old now DOA 1965 mercury comet villager wagon . When traffic was stopped ahead i was slowing way down when i hear screetchin tires .I look up and a mini van fills my mirror and plows into the back of us .Buckling the long roof , shoving the Qpanel into the door and the door into the front fender even to hood was outta wack .This lil oriental dude pops out , the first thing outta his piehole was " YOU NO WORRY YOUR CAR OLD MY CAR NEW " I wanted to twist his head off and hand it to him .Cuz of that wreck i got my 59 long roof .LOL thanks for that reminder mike http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Luckily the little Chinese guy that hit scooter was also a well insured neouro-surgeon. For real.

This conversation reminds me of the time the author, Truman Capote told Johnny Carson (on the tonight show) that actors and surgeons were mostly anti-intellectuals,at which Johnny said "How can you say that!"
And Capote explained that they both tend to be so tied up in their narrow fields of work that the don't ever learn anything about anything out side their narrow corridor of society.
