I actually don't. But this one I can't pass up! Heres some backround..

Every day on my way to work I pass a '65 T-Bird. For the first year or so I saw it every day, sitting in the driveway looking very clean and original. I gathered it was driven every day and cared for. Then, after a while, it sat in the same place, day after day..

Eventually the tires went flat and it was dirty. Every day I watched it just sit.

this past week, after I saw a dumpster appear in the driveway, and saw the family cleaning out the house, I stopped to ask about the "old car". What helped was that I was in the five window and had my son with me.

I approached the guy rather cautiously and asked if the car was for sale. I told him I was looking for a daily driver. He told me he used to drive it every day until the brakes went one winter and it was too cold to work on. He bought another car and started driving that, letting the T-Bird go to waste. He said it was time to sell the car and that I should give him his number. This guy was only in his late 30's at best. Had a young boy about 5 or so. I let him sit in the Hot Rod...

Didn't hear back from him until tonight. Get this.. its a 1965 T-Bird with a 390, second owner, 80K original miles, cream color with a dark green interior. Everthing is there and it runs... 800 bucks. I think this is a no brainer.. Looks like I'm getting a daily driver!

I pick it up on Friday. I'm going to get it running and driving first, then its getting "the treatment". I really hate a green interior, but that can either be changed or the exterior painted to go with it. There are so many green flaked customs out there now that I hate to go that way. I'm thinking maybe the So-What guys can lay down some of that flat base coat in green. Everything else out there seems to be getting shot lately..

At any rate, I'm just happy to be getting an old daily again! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Who did you let sit in the hot rod? The 30 year old or the 5 year old? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Back in the 70's I built a 428 cobrajet motor and put it in a 63 F250 4 wheel drive. It was fun for awhile. but was to much motor(if thats possible!) and I was looking for a 63-64 Galaxie to drop the motor in and have some real fun. A neighbor kid said he had a T-bird convertible that would be a perfect swap. He said the brakes went out coming down a mountain when he was in highschool and it had been parked in his Mom's garage for years.
To make a long story shorter, I got the car did the swap and never did get the brakes to work for shit. I even took it a brake shop they replaced everything to the tune $600+ 1970 dollars and there was only a half pedal when I picked it up. they told me "thats as good as it gets" something about a shitty disc mastercylinder setup.
I did love the hydraulic windshield wipers that run off the power steering pump! that car was great fun, full crossed up frying the tires up the mountain and 15-20 mph in low gears sneaking back down. the brake fade was a serious problem (the way I drove) 140+ with the top down on recap tires will sure get your heart pumping. where is that post about the dumbest thing I ever did in a car? No I was talking about that little blonde!

Damn, good find. A black or silver ext. might go good with the int. Get some pics, I'd like to see it.

Aw, I'm jealous.

Post some pictures ASAP. I'd like to see this color combo and offer up some (unsolicitited) advice. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm thinking that a green interior would be pretty cool.

I guess I do kind of fit the stalker profile in this case.. The car is on the main road and I have to pass it twice a day at least. Of course every day I would be plotting my attack and rehearsing my lines... waiting for the right time... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
