I believe somebody on here uses a pic of the flamethrowin' Olds (was burgundy) by their name. Anyway, it's a toasted pile, remnant of a mild custom sittin' on a flatbed next to my office. Just an assumption, but maybe the pyrotechnics had something to do with the "meltdown"? I don't believe there's one salvagable item left...'cept maybe the milled door lock doodad on the driver's side. Anybody known the owner or what happened? I'd post pics, but it hurts to look at!

Holy Shit! I think I have seen that car in the mags, it was nice...I have a 62 as well. If it is the same car I am thinking of, it had orange and white exterior and white interior, astros, etc... Please post a pic!!

Not sure who's it is, but post pix! post pix!

No, I think it was metallic burgundy, like a Titian Red-ish, with the StarFIRE brushed side panel, Supremes, and bags. Bellflowers with sparkplugs attached to the ends led me to my assumption. No pics! Out of respect for the owner, and for other reasons!!!

That's got to be the one. I was going on memory about the colors, I just checked my Rolls & Pleats and sure enough, it must be the same car. What a bummer!

Looks to me like someone poored gas all over it and then lit it on fire... or maybe a gas leak...

It's sad to hear about a nice car going up in flames like that.

Sam.

If it's the same car I am thinking of, it was beautiful. Wonder what happened.

Hey Rob, nothing quite like that burned-down car smell filling the building to start your morning, huh?

Should put it on ebay "needs some work" or "wiring need replacing", did you get that chrome do-dad, maybe you can mail it to the owner.

Damn Dave I just spent 15 min. trying to find that pic on your site.

Yeah, that's it...you could almost transgress that last ass-fire-belch shot into the current one on the trailer. It's hard to believe that just yesterday the Olds was so beautiful. When they pulled in earlier today, not only was the smell pungent as ever, but water was still pouring from within, fresh from the fire truck's hoses...

that belonged to a young local guy named Ryan. I think he was in a small club called the Road Angels. He did ALOT of work on that thing. Sad to see those pics. I will try and find out what happened. Hopefully nobody was in it when it torched!

thats REAL sad,
i never really liked flame throwers and if they had something to do with it sure is one good reason not to play with stuff like that...

can't imagine how the owner feels right now but hopes he gets around and get himself a new car to playwith and he had good insurance...

I doubt any insurance company will pay off if they find out flamethrowers (alegedly) caused the damage.

DrJ, yeah i thought of that aswell.. even if it didnt sure isnt an advantage to have something like that i mean easy to blame that either way...

even if this car didnt burn due to flame thrower malfunction some how... maybe its an good idea for people to think that it might go like this with flame throwers
or if your car burns for some other reason having flamethrowers might be a thing thats a reason not to payout insurance...

That sucks.Saw a beautiful 49-50 Chevy burn once, wiring fire, parked outside the owners house.Once it gets going good,it happens damn fast.Interior filled up with smoke, paint started to go,windows blew out, instant fireball, looked like that Olds.Don't care if the owner is an asshole, hate to see it.

Bigdaddy, shut up you loud mouthed fuck. It's been my observation that people who'll tell total strangers what an asshole so and so is, are usually the biggest asshole themselves.

I've been a vociferous opponent of flame throwers for years, not just because they're dangerous, not because they cause severe damage to your engine but mainly because they're pointless.
That Olds was gorgeous, it didn't need a "look at me more" exclamation point on flaming wings.
Just like stock Jappers don't need aluminum picnic tables on their trunks, PT cruisers don't need undercar neon, lead sleds don't ALWAYS have to have dummy spots and lakes pipes, you don't need flamethrowers.

I seem to recall a post here about a year and a half ago showing a 60 Impala burned to the ground.

Oh wait that was my sons car http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

the fire in the Impala had nothing to do with Flamethrowers.
So we should not "assume" the was the culprit.

Very sad nonetheless.Lets just hope for his sake it is covered. A total loss of a car you have alot of money invested in can be devastating..I know http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Since nobody will post the true story I say lets make one up http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

He was driving down the street and he saw a bright light from above...it was a UFO and they blasted him with a ray that melted his car and gave him super powers. He now works for the government as a covert op and is in Maldives on a mission.

Gee, I wonder how many HAMBERS could find Maldives on a map? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyhow, I guess we will never know...

That truly sucks, I still hate flamethrowers.

My '67 Cortina was stolen in England when I lived there.
The joy riders stole the three mag wheels that had no locknuts, the cassette player and then set about jumping on the car and smashing every piece of glass on it. Then they slashed all the upholstery.

I feel the owner's pain and my car was junk compared to that gorgeous Olds.

Man I cant wrap my head around that......

Sucks. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Did the guy have insurance???? I hope the assholes who did it get thiers....

07-06-2004, 11:55 PM
If that story is true, it was probably a bunch of numbnuts that stole it because that car was prettier than there car, etc. etc. Some people are just jealous. Go out and work your ass off to have a nice car, don't get mad and (insert evil deed here) mine.
