What's all this horseshit about a "safe driver"??!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Go LONG, Bubba...add a few inches to the stock wheelbase with a suicide front and upsweep the frame like I did on my "A-Bucket" model (I'll show ya next time you're here!). Give it that funky kick-up you're looking for with a stretched look to amplify the effect!

Gotta have room for the body and that gnarly 390...so a short one is outta the question...size matters, Muchacho...think LONG!

There's a lot of things go into a "safe", or preferred word, well handling car. Wheelbase ois one but also spring and shock rates, relative to the wheelbase, roll centers front and rear and their relative heights, and whether or not the frame is rigid like a triangulated space frame or relatively flexible like a Model A ladder bar style.
A lot of hotrods get the low cross leaf front spring and extrememl high rear one. The roll center of both is going to be close to where they bolt to the frame so, the high rear rll center is going to "lift the rear on turns much like a VW or Corvair did. It won't make it roll like those cars because it doesn't have the swing axles (hopefully) but it will affect rear traction.

Some wheelbases;
Model A Ford - 103.5"
Corvette, early - 102"
Corvette Stingrays - 98"
Corvette, "new" - 102"
AC Cobra - 90" (and they were a handfull with a 427")
AH Sprite/MG Midget - 80"

(Would an MG Midget be called a "little people" car now?) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
