Local salvage yard has a '49 Ford coupe which has two good doors and an excellent trunk lid, as well as a good frame. The front clip, hood, floors & drive train are not there and the rest of the body is bad - looks like somebody tried to section it, but screwed it all up. They want $400 delivered to my door. I'd basically be buying the doors, chassis & trunk lid for a project that I've been thinking about getting into, but haven't bought a car yet, so I don't know if I'll need the parts or not. Do you think the price is reasonable?

If you really gotta have it offer $200, otherwise pass. if they were convert doors I'd say kiss the man too, but there not , so don't.

Just for a point of reference, I bought a '50 coupe parts car two months ago that had the chassis, reasonable body (no fenders or hood, rusty rockers), perfect doors, decklid, glass and dash for $450. That came out of PA. Prior to buying that, I did find a decent set of doors that would have cost me under $100 (another PA junkyard find).
If the convenience of having it delivered and the motivation of having it sitting in front of you is worth $400, go for it. I just wanted to let you know that there ARE still some decent shoebox parts cars out east here, and $400 for doors, decklid and chassis (which any shoebox you buy will have anyway) isn't unreasonable but I don't think it's the deal of the day either.
Good luck! Let me know if you need any help finding any parts.

I just remembered that the same guy that I bought the coupe body from had an MP disc brake kit already set up on the stock uprights and A-arms ready to be bolted up that he was selling for $500 (I already had disc stuff for my coupe so I didn't need his). I can give you his info if you want...that would probably be worth it, especially since it's a bolt-on.

TagMan,
PakRat32 nailed it bud. Based on my experience as a So Cal resident, $400 to your door sounds pretty good. I had a roof for my '64 Valiant wagon delivered from a bone yard called Memory Lane. Now, they are notorious for high prices but if you gotta have it, you gotta have it. Finding a good roof for an extinct wagon is just too hard. They charged me $300 to cut off the roof with the quarter windows still in it (bonus) and $50 to deliver it. You get two doors and a deck lid and you can likely sell the chassis to help recoup some of the expenditure. Personally, if I were waiting for an opportunity to start my project, I'd do it. You got some place to put that heap? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm not too far from you and I know how rare parts are around here. Doesn't sound like a bad deal. Any interior? Dash? An extra roof could come in handy for a chop. My 2¢.
