I am 60 years old and I built the 40 Ford Deluxe Coupe below about 1972 and parked it in 1978. I lost interest in it when I built a 40 Willys Coupe Pro Gas car and started drag racing. I took the 40 out of mouthballs last year. My first hot rod, I was about 15, was a almost perfect 1946 Ford Deluxe Coupe Body with a 1954 Chrysler 331 Hemi. I got drafted into the US Army in 1966 and stupidly sold the 46 Ford. The buyer cut up the 46 Ford body and put the Hemi in a 1940 Ford Pickup. I was really stuck on stupid selling the 46 Ford coupe.

The 40 cleaned up very good considering it set for 28 years without being washed or started. The 327 CI Chevy small block engine only had about 60 miles on it when parked. I had a rear coilover suspension kit installed by someone in Abilene in the late 70s. He had the spacing between the coilovers too close together, for which was my fault. He only did what I told him to do. When the car went around a corner it leaned over and wouldn't right itself. I had to redo the rear suspension to correct this. The engine sounds great, don't smoke, has very good ompression and oil pressure. I couldn't believe it cleaned up so good and run so good too. Looking for a non-rearended, not rusted out decklid for the 40 coupe. The repaired decklid on the car had been rearended before I restored it and has extensive body work. It needs to go and a better piece put in it's place.

My Willys Pro Gas Car I sold in 1982, (1978 to 1982)

My primary project at this time is a 1957 2dr post sedan I purchased in 1976 and then stored it. I decided I was getting too old to put off building it any longer so I started on it last year. It is coming along very nicely. I need a factory 57 front seat for it. I have a 55 2dr post seat to trade.

I completely lost interest in cars from 1987 to 2006 with the exception of teaching Auto Tech at the local high school for three years about 2001. Other than that I didn't pick up a wrench. BUT NOW I'M BACK!!!! More on these cars and more cars I have built and owned are at: http://webdesignsadsd.com/40-57/index.html on my website. 67 Corvette, 66 Mustang, 65 Rivera and my Hemi.

Thanks Swimeasy

You must be one of Antique Jugs II (40 Willys) old drag fans.
She had many.

Those were the good ole days. Yes I made many a pass on the Wall Drag Strip. The track is 2000 feet elevation. The Willys best ET at Wall was a 9.81 on nitrous.

I sold the car about 1982 to a guy from Abilene. Then he sold it. I lost track of the car. Sometimes in the mid 80s a friend of mine told me he seen the rolling chassis for sale at the Pate Swap meet. That was the last I heard of the old car. When I watched a Willys on TV staging for a drag race I always wondered if it was Jugs.

I set up a website for my old cars for a cousin of mine to show his
Auto Tech students. I never tried to publish the site though.

About two months ago I came home for lunch and had a message on my answering machine. It was a Mr. Tucker from the Oklahoma City area. That evening I returned his call. He asked if I use to have a blue Willys drag car named Antique Jugs. I said "Yes that is me". He said "Mr. I have been looking for you for the past 20 years!!!! I own that car now." He had just by chance run across my webpage on the internet and looked me up. Great guy to talk with. We exchanged photos and stories. He built Antique Jugs into a Pro Street Car. It now has a 502 BB Chevy, Turbo 400 Trans, 3.70 Gear. Body color is solid Red now.

Below are a few of the photos of Jugs as she looks today, just for you swimeasy. The yellow on the red is the sunlight shining through the trees. Mr. Tucker has done a great job keeping her dignity intact.
I hope you enjoy
