This winter i laid my hands on a set of new Firestone 6.00 16 on Ford original rims for 100$ ;-). According to the specialist tireman the tires was junk and could never be balanced.
My problem was that they where white walls. So i had mư old school tireman turn them with the wite side in, and balance them a lot of weights yes but it could be done (i will paint the weight's black later on)
This is what i started with.

All whitewalls should be mounted like this.

I do like blackwalls and black wheels, but with caps and rings...with big 'n' littles too.
Your car has a 50's flair to it. Keep the 15's and www's.

How much can the spring compress before the shackle hits the backing plate? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

However, it reminds me of the "chicken race" cars in Rebel W/o a Cause a little bit.

The Spring never hits the backingplate or rubb on the tires, since i have a panhard bar, that is original equipment since 41.
Without it i would be in trouble ;-)
I have approximatly two inches of travel before i hit the bumpstop, wich seldome happens in the rear, in the front i have one and a half inch of travel (Posie spring), that one i hit more often. But it works well on paved roads.

I like how the 16's fill up the wheel wells and I'm partial to a blackwall tire myself. Too bad the weights aren't on the inside of the wheel with the whitewalls, though.

Since you asked, I've never been a fan of the crazy colored wheels, I think it takes too much attention away from the body of the car.
I LOVE black steelies, but as others have said, they tend to look better with some kind of contrasting dress up item.
