Auto part counter guys ( Radiator question ?)

The question is

I need to find a bigger radiator for my 65 comet. I looked in the bone yard yeserday (just for demensions ) and didnt find much. I would like to find new cross flow 3 or 4 rows no bigger than 26" wide & 22" tall overall, lower hose on the right. My stock 4 row only has a 16 x 17 core. I got it new 5 years ago and its always ran on the hot side,I was hoping my new motor would run cooler, but no such luck.I have looked on line and its all make & model.

i work at advance and if i remember right, it doesn't give any kinda of dimensions, but you should be able to tell the outlet location from the picture on the computer. If you've got anybody at a store around you that's like me, they'll take you in the back and start opening boxes for ya so you can check out what's there. I've done that several times for guys with older cars and can usually find something.

Modine.......and maybe others have a picture of their radiators.............sizes, shapes, outlet location and sizes.

Just look in the catalog.

You might try talking to someone in a rad shop. They have all the catalogues and experience to get you the right rad.That's what they do all day long, they should be able to find something for you.

hey 296 ! you can look in modine catalog for a radiators by size.there is a pictorial in the back of the book.it shows inlet and outlet/ pick and choose,,hope this helps NERO

Here's a place on line where you can view pics/dimensions, inlet/outlet locations. Very cheap. And the only one I've ordered came next day with no shipping charges. It was a Modine even though the site didn't specify brand. You can do a search by make/model or browse/view their products for individual pics.

you should be able to get a drop in "mustang" radiator that will work, plenty of hi performance versions available, less than 3 bills for the high-zoot ones.

I seem too remember NAPA auto parts is pretty good about keeping actual racks of catalogs of these things full of every dimension about tanks,cores,inlets & outlet i.d.'s & o.d.'s.just find a parts house w/ actual books & a counter guy who can read.

My radiator is the same as a mustang. Thats the problem there to small. It gets hot(105-110) in norcal and the traffic is bad. this is my dayly driver and I have always wanted a/c. in the summer it almost always boils over after I get home from work. Me with it. Thanks

What engine are you running? & also look into a 65comet,station wagon with A/C & auto Radiator.There usually a little more heavy duty.Also try putting a 15" electric in front of the rad.behind the grill with a switch or leave it on all the time.a fan is cheaper then a new rad.And you wouldn't see it there

check the guage for accuracy, got a fan shroud? how many blades on the fan and what kind? how about the timing? how about switching to an auxillary tranny cooler if auto?

theres other things to check before just getting a bigger rad, more air will generally help. make sure all the air that enters the grille gos thru the rad and nowhere else.

i just hate to see you cut up the rad support to shoehorn in a bigger rad that might not help but to hold more hot water.

my point with the mustang rad is that there are plenty of hi performance rads out there for mustangs/falcons etc, for a reasonable price, no need to hunt for something that is gonna take modifications to fit.

Im running a new rebuilt 302 (the 289 ran hot to). My rad. is a mustang 4 row a/c unit, biggest 6 blade fan I can fit. My freind that sells mustang parts tells me that all the guys he deals with report margianl? cooling.No shroud, I dont think it would help, just running on the freeway 60 - 65 it gos up and up.
