Man driving home from work in the '34 was a blast.
There was a serious downpour and traffic was crawling down 1-4.
I haven't driven the hot rod to work in a couple of weeks because I have to take the young 'un to day care plus it's rained everyday. Today they said there was only a 20% chance of rain and the wife stayed home with the kids so I took the old girl out.
I got caught in a nasty storm and I hadn't RainXed my windshield but everything was cool.
The thing I loved the most was seeing the 6 foot high rooster tails of water coming off the tires with no fenders. I'm sure it was really bothersome to those behind me, just like when you get behind a semi with busted mud flaps.
The way I see it our cars have to have that edge around them, that feeling of lawlessness.
I guess it's kinda rude (though not as rude as booming sound systems) but it also makes me glad I'm not a square in some air conditioned heap listening to talk radio.

I kinda like this hobby of ours.

Yes Nads, it is a good feeling! One of the best drives in the Rocky33 was in a downpour. Lean right on a left had turn with no side glass! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I hear you Tman, it's truly a blast. Funny thing is I have no side glass but hardly any water gets in through there.
However the roof insert and windshield leak like sieves.
I know it's not the same as being on a motosickle but I have to wonder what my fellow commuters are thinking.
Why would anyone punish themselves like that?

Sometimes hot rodding is pure bliss, it's almost Zen in it's quality.

BTW, fuck those assholes that beheaded that poor American civilian in Saudi Arabia, may those bastards rot in hell.

I got caught in the rain on Sunday coming back home from the lake in my coupe. People couldn't seem to get around me fast enough, guess their wipers can't keep up with the tails coming off of the tires. The coolest thing was when a Sheriff came along side of me, stared, then knodded his head and drove off. I have no side windows, back window, or top insert. As long as you're going over 35 MPH, you really don't get wet, although that's when I seem to catch all the lights red. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Summbitches should be driven, rain or shine.
Do I hear an Amen?
Ain't nothing but a prop if you can't drive it come what may.
If'n you're worried about a raindrop you oughta wear galoshes.
Holy shit, I'm at 6000 posts, I need some sleep AND a life.

Good night all, see ya on Monday.

You know the funniest part though is just after a down pour & you're driving real slow & making a left turn......& you get a real good face full of water. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was trying to get some nice rooster tail shots but my buddy wasn't much of a photographer! Everybody needs a picture of their first time roadster drenching! I'm no longer a virgin.

I was at the "All-Ford" show at Carlisle a few weeks ago. The weather stunk and it was overcast and rainy all weekend.

There were actually guys who were usings squeegies and chamois on their cars WHILE it was raining. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Riding my chopper (no front fender) is no fun in the rain because the rooster tail hits me square in the face. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have to lean my body off to the side to be able to see.

what really sucks is running no wheels wells in the back of my 56. had to do some cutting to make it lay out on the big whites, so that rooster tail in the rain ends up being inside the car. maybe i should at least put the back seat back in. if anyone saw it in paso, now you know why the back window was soo dirty on the inside.

Even if you can the the water/mud....the front tires will find it and throw it your way when you go around corners.

My dad's T will get you (personally) muddy when it hasn't tained for two weeks. ....but feeling the wind and listening to the exhaust makes up for the mud.
