This post is definately for Droplord49. He doesn't always sell em, he just buys another and never works on shit. He had a beautiful 49 dodge that was as close to done as anything he's had but traded it for a junky ass old chevy. Please Droplord, enlighten us.

Too many cars...too litte $$$. One always finances the next (or a big portion). I'll keep one someday, but I have plans of owning a '40 coupe, a '40 P.U., a '36 three window, a '37 tudor sedan, another '32 roadster, at least one T-bucket, a '69 Camaro convert (for the wife) a '49 Ford coupe, a '46 Plymouth coupe... maybe a '41 Plymouth coupe and a TON more before I leave the planet.... so one has to help create the next!!! Maybe a nose high Willys... Oh and I really dig '62 Buicks for some perverse reason!!!

i like to sell sell sell. im onley 23 and i have owned 32 cars. (just bought number 32 thursday) i get bored with them i guess. as i get older i get better at things. so i take a car as far along as my abilities at the time then move on to the next one. most of those 32 cars were just shit shakers from the 80's but i learned sumtin new on every car ive owned. i guess i just enjoy learning. every new car has its quirks to figure out. i think its kinda fun. so any one wanna buy a 50 chevy had it for allmost 1 year its a record! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
great topic to discuss by the way! and sorry i cant spell http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

First of all there are no rules, if there were we'd all brake them. There are guys with functional cars and ones with way too many projects, I'm in the latter group. I think I'm recovering. Called on a car I've wanted for a while, price was right, sold off some extra odds & ends and had all the money. Then it hit me! I started to build a model of this car over a year ago, still haven't finished it. Why do I need the full size version? I'll put the bucks into one of the projects and hopefully get it closer to rolling. Thank you doctor, I feel much better now!

Well, ya try to walk the line between owning/building everything you want in the limited number of years ya got on this here plane of existence...and trying to hold on to something that's a PART of you!
I've done both...in my younger days, I'd own, swap, sell and buy 15 cars per year easily...never for profit, though...it was usually just a case of being young, eager and blessed with all the steady focus of a Mexican Jumping Bean...I just HAD to acquire every sad case or cool find I came across! Some got done and driven...some didn't. Far too many just went to the scrapyard.
(We won't even discuss "parts cars" here! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Nowadays, though...I've mellowed and matured (at least a LITTLE!) and I have a good grasp of what I want outta life, automotively speaking, so there's no need to bounce from project to project like a jackrabbit anymore!
There's four cars I wanna get done before I'M done...and then I'd be happy. May only get to one or two of them...but I can live with that, so long as I'm making SOME progress towards that goal! As much as I'd LOVE to own a yard full of projects and have the resources to bring them all up to where I'd like 'em, I know that I'd never get ANYTHING done if I went back to working like that!
I can't see ever selling the 49...it's a HAMB car...meaning that I'm just it's current caretaker...SO many people here have had a hand in it in one way or another that I could never SELL it...it may need to get built and rebuilt several times...but I could never let it go!
These days, it takes me alot longer to get something done, but I've discovered that I'm more patient and focused, and that leads to a better end result, hopefully! It may just be a part of changing as you grow older...the sporatic and unfocused enthusiasm of youth explodes in all directions and you follow those urges until you settle into your groove, nail down what you REALLY want, and get down to it!
When I was in my teens and early to mid twenties, there were about a hundred cars I wanted to own, and a billion ideas bursting in and out of my head at any given moment. Hard to see any ONE project through like that!
(Kinda like entering a room full of supermodels and being told "just pick ONE!" http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Now, there's maybe a dozen cars I'd like to own, and four or possibly five that are priorities. Still got lots of ideas bouncing around in my head...but I've learned to enjoy those ideas as pleasant daydreams while I work on that same old rusty hulk in the driveway every day! Kinda like settling down with ONE woman, but still being human enough to fantasize a little!

To be honest, I own more cars than I need, but less cars than I want to own.
I am a packrat, I like the hunt, finding a part ( or a car ) and buying it.
So I don't like to sell them in the first place, but there is a practical reason too...
By the time I am ready to sell a car I have put way to much money into brakes, steering, suspension and engine mods., but it still has the nasty paint and upholstery it had when I got it.
Being a lousy salesman doesn't help either...
A couple of times it just made more sense to part the car out, and use as much as possible on its replacement...

Well, I suppose I should say that after all the cars that have come and gone... I still own my first. A 1950 Plymouth. Somehow for 17 years it's stayed around! I guess it's sentimental value, or the fact it's still in my dad's name (cause the insurance was cheaper at 16!!!). But it was bought with my lawn mowing/ car detailing money for $500... I still dig it, eventhough it hasn't seen the light of day for 10 years. Someday it'll be resurected, but NEVER sold...

well..thats a tough question. i'm definatly a keeper. i have some buddies that are always buying and selling old cars for profit reasons.I never understood how they could sell some of them. i get all wrapped up in them. they just sell them off like cattle.
i've tried the buy and sell thing 3 times now. 55 ford two door sedan, 55 chevy truck and most recently a 72 cougar xr7 convertible. the buyers just about had to pry my cold dead fingers off of the two 55's.
i just got the cougar about a month ago or so. i had absolutly no intentions of keeping the damn thing. didn't even know what a 72 cougar looked like before i went to look at it to buy. i actually DROVE this one home. thats a first. i didn't get but two miles from the guys house and i'm thinking "hey this things not bad".
one month later i've got a rust free parts car all tore down and cut up in the back yard. the fenders, doors, and quarters off the convertible. i think i'll just keep it.
i don't care what other people are into or car culture trends. i just like what i like. and what i like is old cars. all sorts of old cars but 50's customs are by far my favorite. their sinister and beutiful at the same time. powerfull yet gracefull. enginearing marvels that work flawlessly and simotaniously.
i've been through 6 cars of different levels of completion. some good looking show cars and some bad looking fixers. just to reach the penticle. the chopped 50 merc. my fixation on chopped mercs even perplexes me sometimes. when i see a mercury rather it be the hirohata or a rust bucket in a field, i get all exited. well i finally have mine. and short of a some kind a medical emergency with my wife or daughter it's NEVER leaving. ever.

I'm a "keeper" type. My Studebaker will always be with me. I got it by pure luck from my wife's uncle, & I have a soft spot for Studes. I also have a '71 Riviera that will never go away. Its been in the family since '73 or so. Needs a full resto, but I'm young yet, so it'll get done eventually.
I noticed that I tend to keep vehicles when I know their history. I have a rotted out '64 F250 that I really like, but its too far gone to save. It belonged to a good bud's daddy who bought it new, so I can account for its every year since '64 thru him. Its going to the crusher soon- but the 292 Y is getting dropped in the Studebaker, so I don't feel as though I'm getting rid of it.
To each his own- keep 'em, sell 'em, collect 'em, but by all means, build 'em! Nothing worse than a car rotting away in someones backyard when you know they aren't ever gonna get around to it!
I've had most of my shit for years, my '54 Chevy since '90, my '63 Capri since '87 etc. I've never made a dime on any car I've ever sold, in fact I've lost money. I've made bunches on parts though.
I dunno, I'm weird like that, my '54 Chevy's my baby, I've been through so much with her I can't ever imagine it being gone.
And the Capri's so rare it really can't be replaced, but it's sitting in my driveway and hasn't moved in months.
I don't get it because it's not to be got.
If push came to shove and if someone was willing to give me stupid money, all my shit's for sale.

For me it's compensating....my wife says she's the only woman I can have so I guess I need to get my "spice of life" from a variety of cars.
I like a lot of different types of cars, old and new. If I could, I would have an awesome stable of vehicles. I'd like a fenderless '33 3 window, a fendered '29 sedan, an early '60s Caddy, at least 2 or 3 customs, a fastback stingray, a hardtail chopper and a new Dodge Magnum Hemi....just for starters.
But alas, I'm not a rich man so it's generally 1 or 2 cars at a time.
I've read the stories of the man who's owned his hot rod since forever and I think "how cool is that!" But then I think about him after 50 years, talking to his buddies, they're all talkin' about all the cool cars they've owned and the ones they wished they still had and he ain't got much to say. So, how cool IS that?
To each his own.

I used pick up everything that I found cheap and figured that it was an investment toward the future, fast forward 30+ years and I have spent over $50,000 in storage on a bunch of tin that I can't sell for a grand. looking back I'd say Marcus is on the right track, buy em and turn them for a quick profit, then piss and moan about all the deals you've made and all the cars you should have kept http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think in series; one hot rod at a time (not including parts cars). I'd rather have one functional car than several "projects", but that's just me.
I buy and sell cars as my needs, abilities, and budget allow. I've had a '55 Chevy for 13 years because I need something with a roof, room for four (plus luggage), and doesn't require too much in the way of fabrication skills.
In another year or two, as my welding skills improve and my son wants to get involved, it'll be sold to finance an A Tudor sedan buildup. The circle of life will continue...

It depends on the car and the situation. I had a 67 Gran Sport that was like a bad penny.I had to sell it four times before it would leave for good. Used to buy and sell motorcycles for quick profit. I buy cars to see what their potential is. I have ideas about how certain cars should look. That's part of the reason I opened the shop. That way someone else gets to spend the money and I get to work on all these cool cars. Although, for some reason I still have too many cars of my own. I guess it's time to sell a few.

I never did get into the buying and selling mindset, I just get the ones that I really, really want and just wish I could buy the ones that I really want. But I have come to the conclusion that everything is for sale and I will be able to buy something else later. I just need the money right now.

Had this for 9 years... I've had a love-hate relationship with it. If it was not a ragtop, this thing would be GONE. But since it is, the planet says "Ohhh no. If you sell it, you will be one sorry assed motherfucker" and I'm like Gee thanks. So I try to make the best of it and I still get annoyed with it because I want something else. I have IDEAS I want to implement...

i usualy don't keep 'em for more than a year..every fall it seems i sell a car to go out and hunt for another,i get an idea in my head that i want a certain type of car.and i got out to find it....i think its the thrill of the hunt more than anything else..plus i want what everyone else has..if i see something kool cruisin around i start to want one too!!!kinda screwed up i guess..i have [since age 16] always had a 50's or 60's car as a daily, and are easy to aquire and not a lot of money is usualy involved so its a matter of why drive only one car your whole life, when you can afford to drive 'em all....plus i love to bring 'em home, clean them up,lower them and kinda make it your own and get your fun outta it,and then sell it and start over....its a hoddy... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I think I fall into the "I want to own them all" category. Well, at least all the cars I dig anyway. I buy or trade for cars I like, some roadworthy some not, work on them & get'em to various stages of completion, then most of the time I get bored with them, so I sell or trade them for something else. I very rarely make money on any of them & I'm cool with that because it's all part of what I like to do. It's a vicious cycle. I just look at it as a 6 month (give or take a few months) test drive. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
There are only 2 cars I really kick myself for letting go, a 51 Mercury coupe & 56 Mercury 2dr ht.
I have one car I'll never sell, my 49 Chevy. I chopped it & took it apart about 9 years ago & it was the first time I cut a roof & got into that much work, broke my balls, & the chop came out really well (I think) so I think I owe it to myself to finish it some day.
OK thats my story.

And lastly, I just won this on Ebay... and I owned it for 2 minutes and agreed to sell it to my buddy for the price I won it for. Only catch is that he gets bored and when he sells it, I get it back for cheap. Already had disc brakes, 605 box, 700R4 etc... This is one of the IDEAS that I have stashed in my head...

Had my T-tub for 24 years now and just finishing it. I have started and finished several cars over the years, but they always got sold to finance the next one. For some reason the tub has hung around. Partly because when I was about 13 in around 1962 I saw those beach party movies and the T-tubs in them left a lasting impression. I didn't purchase my first tub body till 1980. I intend to end up with my tub which is going to my daugher, and my chopped 28 2-door and a 46-8 ford coupe or convert. My 57 pontiac delivery will be made into a daily. I have anywhere from 6-12 project sellers all the time so it helps with keeping the ones I want. I sell to augment my income. The truck I'm building now,SKR8PN,almost went out the door a few weeks back. That truck is one of the MAIN reasons I had a damn heart attack,at only 50 years old. Hmmmm...Logical question, however I seriuosly doubt that logical answers exist. Owning and building hot rods is to some men what buying shoes is to women. Closet is not a closet unless it's full. Then, you spot a pair on sale and the price is so attractive, only 2 will do.
I currently own 8 vehicles, only 2 of which are hot rod quality. Over the years, I've owned 72 vehicles. Sometimes it's a matter of losing interest, sometimes it's finding something better for the money, and sometimes it's a need for change. Then, there are times when what seperates you from total financial ruin is the sale of a vehicle or two. Perhaps it's college for one of the kids. Down payment for the new house. Whatever the reason, we all seem to use our hot-rods as a mainstay to rational sanity and financial gain. The upside is that you can drive a hot rod, but you cannot drive stocks and bonds.

Since it IS at the top, I will throw in my 2 pennies. My Starchief was purchased by my mother from the original owner in Abilene Tx when I was old enough to identify a phillips screwdrivers... but not much else. I have recently aquired it, even after my mom had to sell it due to family hardships, and then re-purchased it 8 or so years later. This car is like a family member... and while I may "destroy" it as only I know how, I will always have it... until I deem one of my children worthy (and mature) enough to appreciate it. Maybe. For me, its all about the particular car--I will always have my 67 Cutlass(es) because it's (They're) MY car. I built it,broke it,and rebuilt it. I probably won't paint the one I drive every day, cause I like it like this, but the other one is gonna have to be slick, cause it is gonna be completely overbuilt...
other cars I have felt that way about have always ended in tragedy(which is why I now have 2 67 cutlasses)
other cars I currently own have that "I would miss it, but if the price was right..." type vibe to them. They are super cool, but not the cars I have ALWAYS wanted. They are cars I ended up with because the moon was just right. (the money was there or the trade was interesting enough)
I like 'em fine. (Hell, the wagon is super cool) they just aint THAT CAR.

Bought my 40 coupe in 1963 and still have it. Why? Cause I've got too much blood, sweat , tears and memories in it to sell it. It sort of becomes part of you and reminds me of being young again. My 51 Merc convertible is all apart in the garage. 10 years and counting. It's gonna be a custom. Bought it cause it was my dream car. Plus, the more space you have, the more cars you have. It's the rule!

Wow. Talk about old thread. I would love for Mac to answer this one for you all, since he won't 'splain his thinking to me on the matter. But then again I can't really explain it myself. I own more vehicles than he does. Just ask him.
I will NEVER allow him to sell the panel. I LOVE that truck. He was recently asked if he wanted to sell it, and I saw the motor in his head start to turn. There was almost blood shed.
As for my others, I have gotten rid of 60's era mustangs, a 69 camaro, and my precious 51 F1. The cars I replaced with a 68 fastback that Mac would love to see gone, and the 51 helped fund Macs Starliner. (I don't feel bad about it, since it is still a HAMBrs ride and I still have my mitts on the panel.)
I got the Poncho because I fell in love with it when I first saw it at a carshow and could not believe it was for sale, and in my price range! I don't plan on parting with it either. Just ask Brandy.
I guess there is usually a price for every possesion though, and if someone offered me MY price you can bet I will sell the cars. Otherwise, I have an un-natural emotional attatchement to these 3 and can't explain it.

And even then somebody is gonna ask,,,you shoot off your mouth with a stupid price and BANG,,,It's history,,,, HRP

I have sold some parts over the past years that I truly regret selling just for the simple fact is that I know need them and the prices are so high I cannot replace them, so as far as selling anything think long and hard before you do so there is no regret. As far as cars I can only say that I have a roadster that is from my father who has had the car since 66, I have a lot of sentimental value to it that I don't think could ever be replaced by any amount money. I grew up in the car docking 10's of thousands of miles in the rumble seat. I hope my son will be into it when he is older......15 years from now. My father still has his model a pickup that he got when he was 14 but he has been through an awful lot of cars since then but still remains to have a pretty good collection of rolling vehicles. We never seem to make the money on them but don't lose any either, if they are ever sold it is usually to put the funds into the next one. I have come to realize that my life generally revolves around Hot Rods and the only way I will ever back off if it's in the need of my family.

This post is definately for Droplord49. He doesn't always sell em, he just buys another and never works on shit. He had a beautiful 49 dodge that was as close to done as anything he's had but traded it for a junky ass old chevy. Please Droplord, enlighten us.
FYI - lowburban is his big brother picking on him:eek:
yeah Dustin...what gives:D ....is that 55 olds driving yet?

Damn, this thread has been around longer than I have....:) My personal bottom line is that I've owned well over 200 cars since 1967. Some I bought, screwed with for a few days and sold for a few extra bux. Others I just got tired of and traded them off. I did the Mustang thing to the point of owning several of every model from '64 1/2 to '73. My dad accused me of trying to corner the market when I had 5 or 6 sitting in my yard at the same time...:D I finally got so burned out on 'Stangs I don't care if I ever see another one.
But out of those 200+ cars, there are a bunch that I regret selling, scrapping or whatever. I've always had a thing for T-Birds but never kept a single one of my favorite '61-'63s. But my main addiction has always been '61-'64 Galaxies. Owned a BUNCH, but either drove them into the ground, built 'em into stock cars, or ran 'em in demo derbies.
So when my buddy coerced me into buying my '64 Custom on eBay, the drive back to his house from the delivery terminal convinced me that that this one would be a keeper. It's still a roach, but I love it. There are enough different things I want to experiment with to change it's personality that I'll probably not live long enough to do them all. My '63 Galaxie gonna-be vintage stock car is the same deal. All of the circle trackers I raced either got totalled or sold, so I'm building one that I can keep. This doesn't mean that another project car might not appear, but it'll be an addition, not a replacement.
BTW, I've become somewhat of a hoarder in my later years....:) I've got an OT late '70s T-Bird and Lincoln MK VII LSC that I'm keeping too.

I'll throw in, because i'm thinking of selling my POS. I've got a old mustang, i'm sick to death of. I like mustangs, I like a lot of things about this car, but I hate to work on it anymore. I get so pissed with it, I can't lift a wrench without wanting to beat on the car when something doesn't work right. When it gets like that, I think it's time to part ways. I've been paying a garage to deal with it, I can't anymore. Kinda like living with a woman that you don't like anymore... there's a bit of sentimentality keeping things together, but when it boils down to it, you gotta part ways.

Just noticed this thread came back 1 1/2 years after I made the above post. The car I mentioned above is now being parted out the rebuild will never happen, but it will help fund another car I bought this past spring. I think that is part of the fun, there is always something better out there, and off loading unwanted stuff helps fund the new love. :D

I would never sell my three window it was my first car. I guess it will go to my kid when im worm dirt.
I don’t get the guys that never keep one, it really sucks bad when you busted your ass helping a good buddy and they sell the thing. That shit tends to make me not help any more.
[size=3]Throw it here honey, BIGGEST regret of my life is not having my 67 Mustang anymore.:(
Eh, I get pissed because there's so many other cars I want, and all my money time and blood is being poured into something I can take or leave. I want a early 60's Bird, or Riv, or 50 Ford, or 54 Chevy... Lots of cars I want to take a swing at. Back at my parent's house, I have a 79 Malibu that I sold to my brother, I want it back, I love that car more than anything. My first love, i've hand my hands on every bolt in it. Nothing special, other than it's mine. I swore I wasn't going to part with it, but I did. Big regret.

I got my 57 Ford the day of my senior prom. We've been through a lot together. In those 4 years, I've seen some of the best and worst times of my life. I feel I owe that car a certain amount because when shit really got bad and it felt like everything was going down the crapper, it was there for me to turn to and to give me something positive to look forward to. A car can be something more than a compilation of iron, rubber and plastic, it can take on human characteristics and because of that, I think it's possible to have some emotional attachment to it. The vehicle itself can also be the tangible symbol of good times and bad; that trip to the shore with that special someone, that outrageous burnout that put inch deep holes in the pavement...stuff like that.
Not to say that the right offer or amount of money couldn't cause us to part ways. However, we've been through a lot together and I hope we have a lot more to go.

I have had about 15 classic cars in 15 years. For me I always want to trade them up. My tastes change and then once I sell a car... a couple years later I end up buying one like I sold... it goes around in cycles... Kind of a bad pattern.

i read this in a book about Da Vinci:
"Once a piece of work is nearing completion, it is no longer exciting, and it is time to move on."
That is the answer to the question...in my eyes @ least. I'm am willing to bet that most of the people who actually build thier cars through completion are the ones that sell them off. Why? cause they want a new and more exciting challenge. They enjoy building them, not the actual car itself. But there are exceptions ...the guy who builds lots of cars and keeps that 1 just cause it has some meaning to him.
I fall into all three of the mentioned categories. I'm only 25 and have had a handfull of "old cars" - simply because the only place I can store them/work on them is @ a friends garage that is over 90miles 1 way (I still go there everyweekend to work on my '33 though):
'47 Ford P/U
'66 AMC Rambler
'69 Chevy P/U
All of which I built and sold...because I could take them or leave them.
I'm currently working on a '33 Ford P/U which will most likley Never be sold - but when it is "done" - (they are never done) I will be looking for something New and exciting to build
In the List would be:
'32-'38 Chevy P/U Cab to be Little Brother to my Ford
'34 Dodge P/U Cab - just to say I have a Chevy Ford and Dodge
'34 International Cab's are pretty cool too
'62-'72 Chevy 3/4t4x4 P/U Long bed with a Plow for the "Work & Tow Truck"
'49-'51 Ford Fordor - bagged (for when I eventually have kids)
'67-'68 Fastback Stang (for the soon to be wife)
By the way if you know of a '32-'38 Chevy Cab in Good condition for sale...let me know I'm gathering parts for the next build :D

I usually like buying something and then put my special touches on it. ei: slammed to the ground. Most people come up and say "I should have quessed that was yours" Then I have someone who wants/needs it more than me and I send it on its way.
I quess I like the thrill of something new in the garage.

I thought this post was about squigy but since he knows he is a sick man. no need to say anything more.
I want to sell the wagon to start a new project but just can not seem to let loose. Why ? not fully sure except to say its 'me', my first old car and I have tons of money and sweat into it and trust it more then any car I have ever owned.

The reason i will not sell my Galaxie is because i feel that i owe it to the car to finish it one day, make it look the way i see it in my head. i met alot of people because of the Galaxie, it helped me settle in L.A. It deserves to be finished, its my baby. I will have it when im old, maybe hand it on to someone in the family.

I recently sold mine. Origionally I was trying to sell it so I could have the money to build my T coupe whenever I get it back from Clark. Then the big General (GM) decided they were going to close a bunch of plants and mine was one of them. So I ended up selling the car so that I could pay my wifes Impala off.

I won't sell the Old Ford because,(1) It's the first car I ever drooled over.(2)It's the first car I ever got to really haul ass in.(3)I promised the guy I got it from I'd never sell it,that I would pass it on to my kids, and if they don't want it, give it to some poor sap who deserved it but would prolly never be able to afford to possess one, when I was too old and decrepid to drive it and or care anymore.(4)I was never any good at selling shit anyway.LOL
Hey MOJO,what year is that Stang,my wife wants one? Is a 65 T-Bird old enough for ya?

I buy because I have an itch that needs to be scratched.
I sell because I have scratched that itch.
I have probably owned 300-400 cars.
I have probalby owned 300-400 motorcycles.
I have probably owned 200-300 bicycles.
I have a vehicle I bought about 32 years ago.
I have never owned a Sherman Tank. A steam locomotive. A Ferarri. A '40 Ford coupe. A totally wicked virtually undrivable on the street vehicle. A Pierce-Arrow speedster. A bi-plane that actually is airworthy. An antique schoolbus. A steam roller, with real steam. A horse drawn road grader. I still have a lot of itches to scratch, and sometimes I don't know the itch is there until I see it.

difficult question to answer,Here goes Had alot of cars in 40 years.Wish I had kept a few and glad I got rid of the rest,They were the stepping stones to a better year or better model.Had to sell mostly to finance the next.allways wished I kept my 32 5/w but having 4 back operations and the car being chopped and channelled it just wasn't going to get any better to drive anymore. We go pretty far and I needed to be comfortable in what I drive. The Merc was bought in NewJersey in 1980 and I still have it to this day,That's a keeper, and the wife likes it too.The 36 is debateable at this point,I would get rid of the car if the price was right or I found another 32 5/w in the same price range. What ever i have I drive, when I'm driving my truck people ask about my Merc when I'm driving that they ask about my 36, I drive what I want when i want to,And I drive im hard and put them away wet.WHEELS

I guess I am in the keeper category. I've had all three of my rides for more than twenty years, and two of the three for more than thirty. The '40 coupe was my first car; got it when I was fifteen (1967). Got the '41 pickup in '75, and my '29 hiboy roadster in '82.
All three of them need a bunch of work, but isn't that always the way it is? Each has its own strong points. The coupe is practical. The roadster is for adventuring. And, of course, everyone needs a truck.
Having at least one running for daily driver duties makes my life better. They may not be as comfortable, functional, or get as good mileage as a late model, but driving a hot rod daily is cool, and after this much time, I don't see myself getting rid of any of them.
I can't believe I missed this thread when it passed around the first time.......
