View Full Version : Cowl Steer progress pictures

Thought I would throw up some pictures of the progress of my cowl steering system on the 29 Tudor.

I found that a 36 37 Pontiac and Chevy column and box work great for this since the bolts face left and would also work well if you were to mount it on the frame like a F1 setup. I will be using a 37 Plymouth or 37 Dodge shaft which is the same pattern as a early Ford pitman arm to extend the horizontal steering shaft.

I still need to finish welding and place some gussets and brackets to strengthen it but here it is.

I love cowl exiting steering on the right cars it looks really trick.
When you finish weld are you going to cap the end of that open box on the bulkhead hoop?

We always cap off all open ends.
When we make a hoop , we also cut 45's and join on the corner , looks nice and saves on capping off after.

These arent criticisms , just explaining how we do it.
theres no particular right or wrong way is there?

I was really pleased to see the tech articles on here regarding cowl steering as we have a similar project coming up involving a cut down 32 pickup cab and wasnt sure how we were going to sort it cheaply...now I know , thanks Guys !!

Yes we will be capping the ends and 45ing the corners for strength - Thanks for the tips!
