I'm not one of the HAMB gods, actually didn't know there was such a thing. I'll just give you a gentle heads up about this board. This is a board for traditional Rods and Customs. We build them, help each other build them, we scrounge parts the old fashion way when possible, and when were're finished we drive the wheels off them. Now, if you can be comfortable in surroundings like that you'll fit right in. On the other hand if ALL you do is VW's and that's ALL you want to talk about my advice would be to move on, you're going to be bored about 95% of the time. Another thing, we would like to know what you are working on, what you've got on the road and some pictures are always helpful. Hope this gives you some insight as there are some here who can't wait to tear you a new asshole if they even smell a pretender.

Ok, First of all, ya like volkswagens, first strike, compounded by the fact that ya got a tude! I know that there are some guys on the HAMB that like vw's and i myself have a little soft spot in my heart for the damn kraut boxes, but ya cant love those things and have a bad attitude here! It's like a ugly chick with a shity attitude she can't have both or shes alone! Try again.

Sacred Beetle!!!!!.....................OLDBEET
I've got a good Smurf story for you. Back around '77 when the Smurfs were really huge they were selling these little Smurf dolls in England that had lead in the paint. Kids were licking them and getting sick. Some jokers decided to cash in and release a flexi 45, the band was called Father Abrafart and the Smurps. The song was called "Lick a Smurp For Christmas, All Fall Down" and I had a copy of it. It's around here somewhere, it's funnier than hell.
What this has to do with this thread I haven't a clue.
FWIW, I like Volkswagons, especially the big boxy ones that you can get stoned in.

I've been biting my lip on these posts, and I probably still should be.
Here is my take, for what it is worth. I personally do not have a problem with folkswagons themselves, or even the odd post.
It just seems that many (NOT ALL) of the owners come here with the attitude that we should adopt them. Because they are Special.
I have German heritage. Hell, if you look up my history, all four of my grandparents originate there, therefor I am not using that as an excuse. I'm not anti-german, so to speak http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ha Ha still here, sorry guys had to work. Guess we all dont have to...Yeah buddy pass the sawzall and the torch, thats what im all about you can have the pieces to my fucking roof, I dont need them after I chop it, to bad you cant do the same. As for traditional rod website, I have seen 5 percent traditional 95 percent freakin' unbelievably modified crazy rods on this site with mad fabrication skills, that is why I am here. So that is why I bow down for advise, wisdom. With my German steel, hell we all cut it up the same so I feel I can help others as they can help me that way. I also am a master of fiberglass, taught by my father as a kid. Can stitch my own interior, build my own motors, even a chevy. Worked in a machine shop for 3 years building racing heads. Do you love me now that my attitude has been ajusted or do I need to go in the back yard to get a switch pop? I'm just kiding with you fuckers thats my personality why are we so sensitive...and I have never been booted from a VW forum, an the cutting a vw up will never offend me I am not a purist.

A lot of us would prefer to have a Roadster Pickup, 3-Window, Phaeton, Vicky, Briggs-bodied 4 Fordor, Evans manifolds, Columbia 2-speeds, Stromberg 97's, etc, but just can't quite afford it yet. So, myself, I usually "lurk and learn". here. I was basically chased off that Volksrodder's forum by one particular shithead, but I guess there's one on every forum, or in front of every keyboard. So, lemme get this straight, you've only got $1,500 invested into an almost complete early 20's car? Who'd you have to blow to get that accomplished? I think it all has to do with who you know. Some buddy's buddy has a frame another guy down the block has a body, some people aint got that. They have to shell out some major green to have that kinda stuff. On the other side of the coin, you have people who are enthusiastic about "old school" rods that they'll build one outta any $300 P.O.S. they can find. I dont think it really matters who drives what, just as long as they built it and they are having fun with it! If you can get an A-Bucket on the road for less than $2000, good for you. Now if someother guy cant, cuz finding something like that cheap and close by is nearly immpossible, dont knock him down. Start out by telling him how you've acheived this amazing feat, and how he might be able to duplicate it, thats how us FNG's learn. You "pro's" had to learn from someone, unless you were a born ROD GOD.

Instead of bagging on people you should be asking how can I get that done. There was a great auction for a 28 pontiac sedan that ended at $420 I believe and guess what NOBODY HAD TO BLOW ANYBODY!

I didnt say it CANT be done I was trying to say that its harder to accomplish for someone who doesnt have the same background, skills and resources, as your self. Clearly, you had a place to work on it, $1500 you didnt need, and the tools to work with, some of us dont, myself included. Every time I look at my grille, in my 3rd floor apartment's kitchen I keep telling myself I will finish this car, somehow. [quoteSo, I've had over 25 Volkswagens in my life. The last one I built (2 yrs ago) I put 3500 bucks into the engine (166 horsepower stroker engine 82x94cc). VW's ain't cheap anymore. They're just easier to find than pre-war domestic parts are.
[/ QUOTE ]
A good healthy 2276 can put out upwards of 350 hp, and propel a stock weight Bug into the low 10's, 10.06@140.95mph at E-Town, to be exact. But you're right, it ain't cheap.I've got my eye on a '48 or '49 Thames, an old Gasser, still, but, in the meantime, my VW will have to do..unless, of course, I find a nice, cheap, 28-29 Roadster Pickup ;-)
As I've said before, I am not here to try and convert anyone; I am here to "lurk and learn".
I'll slide back into my foxhole now..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Start out by telling him how you've acheived this amazing feat, and how he might be able to duplicate it, thats how us FNG's learn. You "pro's" had to learn from someone, unless you were a born ROD GOD.

Maybe if you stopped being a dick lick, shut your yap for a while and attempted to learn something instead of runnin' yo mouph complaining how bad you have it and how it can't be done, you may just learn how it CAN be done. We are all here to learn, encourage and possibly help. Unfortunately your punk ass attitude is probably making that real hard for you already. I'm sure you were born a "Rod God"...'cept it has nothing to with vehicles.

I'd compare myself to OCC's Mikey, I just enjoy ANY type of motor vehicle, and just like to screw around. Dont take me so freakin serious, If you knew me, you'd understand. Y'all are judging me and a few of the other newbies, without even taking the time to know us. You cant know a person by an "intro", which I see no relivance in anywho, cuz most of you out there miss them.
My intro has only been viewed 344 times since I put it up and had only a few responses, to those of which I thank you. How many people are on this board? As far as you longtime hambers are concerned think back 2-3 years, is all this "hazing" really worth it in the end? If you said yes, apparently you werent hazed enough.... I'll get down off this soapbox, fer now

After you get down, why don't you head your ass out the door. If you go back and read your own BS you'd get it. "If you knew me" EXACTLY. Listen and learn. You are in a pretty prime area to feel the love of the HAMB, there are a bunch of PA HAMBers that help each other out. Trey, I can help0 you with that-
If the website is still up, check out Kurt Mezger's all-steel, full-weight, 1968 VW Bug running the aforementioned 10.06 at 140.95 @ E-town, with a come-from-nehind win over a N2O BBC Camaro, at: www.vintageperformance.net. (http://www.vintageperformance.net.) You can also go to the California Racing Grapevine and watch Kris Lauffer's 2442cc 1965 VW Convertible run a 9.15 @ (I think it was) 137mph. I work for a VW Magazine, and we built a "soft" (low compression, easy on the cam timing, mild P&P heads) 2332 cc engine, that made 352@7,000. An 82x94mm VW engine (2276) with, say an Engle FK-89 cam, about 10 to 1 compression, the heads from Hell, and a set of Weber 48 IDA's, built right, and tuned right, should hit that 350 mark pretty easily. I am not trying to stir up any controversy; just lettin' ya know the answer to your question.

I do read my own posts and they are exactly what I want to say. I have been watching some of the stuff going on here for atleast a year now. The only reason you know I exist is the fact that I voiced what was on my mind. The rest of you can do that, so WTF, newbies cant? You'll see I reg'ed in March but didnt post till June? Why? Cuz of assholes like you! As far as comparing myself to Mikey, I did so IN FUN! You say listen and learn, I'm at a point where I know where to get my info from. This aint the only forum on the net. I'm also big on self teaching. There are alot of talented members here, some I probably have already met and just dont know it. I would love to do nothing more than to just kick back and learn anything I can. Here's the problem, I post an opinion, staight up and unsugar coated, and it seems y'all just gotta pick it apart till you miss what I'm really trying to say, which in turn spurs me on to post a response. You want me to dissapear? then stop feeding me f-in negativity! I'm here for fun, not to be critiqued, on my intro, my attitude, or my personal preferences. Shit, you wonder where my 'tude comes from, look at how many people want me to leave and tell me how'd you feel. Right now I'm not really caring, who likes me and who dont, thats not why I'm here. Rodding isnt a popularity contest, its about expressing who you are, through your cars, and yourself. If you think for a second I'll ever back down, your foolin yourself. You can tell me to fuck off, or you can give me some time, and you'll find out that I'm not such a "dick" after all. I'm just straightfoward, sometimes it hurts me sometime it helps me. One things for sure I aint gonna change just for a few, so's I can fit their mold of "the perfect HAMBer". Like I keep tellin ya, if you dont like me then stop reading my posts. I could tell you to hit the bricks but, unlike you, I'm curious to see what I can learn from y'all.

I'm the brow beater, you have sat hear for days trying to tear me apart and Im still here taking it. If you looked at our website you should also make reference to the positive things I have made reference to as far as the Hamb web site. Like the links to the tech-o-matic. For every on comment I have made there is 1-2 pages of negative b-s from you I am retorting to you coments, sorry I am using big words. Everys quick to jump on the negative and not the positive things. I have actually brought several new people to this sight. People who will buy the stuff in your classified section. People who are damb good metal fabricators/welders machinist on both american and german steel. People who know to do interiors, build motors, do everything themselves, and could help you someday if you were not so busy trying to bash me and put me in my place. All you did was show them they don't want to be around a bunch of close minded people who only accept "one type of iron". Funny, because the hot rod croud were outcast at one time too weren't they? Now your cool, and Volkswagens are bad. I guess you are the "HAMBGODS" I had it right in my opening statement. The responses I got back were anything but respectful. I've also viewed some unnecessary disrespect to newcomers as well. So here we are, if you're gonna preach about respect make damn sure your not singleing any one person out, there's a few others who might benefit from your words. So, may a put a fork in this thread and call it done or are we gonna drag it out for another week, because I'd really like to put my attention elsewhere

I've been lurking here for quite some time, and only recently (as you can see) registered to post. Yes, I have VW's. Yes, I know they are not welcome here. But, I registered so I could PM folks with other interests. I've been around street rods since my brother built his "C-Cab" Model T and a A chassis, with a built flathead engine with Fenton heads, Offy manifold, and 3 Stromberg 97 carbs. I'm building a "composite" car- with a traditional dropped I-beam axle and transverse leaf spring and hairpin radius rods, but on a frame (floorpan, actually) that most of you would not approve of. Yes, I do have respect for a lot of the builders and crafters of cars on this board; they are what I aspire to be. I am NOT repeat NOT trying to convert anyone to my style of car. I've learned a lot from a lot of the posts here, and hopefully will continue to do so. There's been a couple of folks on here that have asked VW related questions, and I have taken the liberty to PM them with answers, in order to keep that brand of car content to a minimum on this board.
If anyone wants me to log-out and go away, I can do that, as well. But I'll still be "lurking and learning"... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

But I'll still be "lurking and learning"... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

did someone mention 'naziwagons'? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif reminds me of when some guy called my bug a 'nazi staff car' because his girlfriend was eyeing up my beetle http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif bear in mind that i am a 6'5" 18 stone skinhead and at the time was carrying a louisville slugger behind my seat, and a blank firing glock 17 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif - but instead of violence, i thought it'd be more educational to whup his mundane-o with a 30year old car....

It wasn't the VWs that got the HAMB boys ticked off, it was the crappy intro title & a-hole attitude the guy came in here with. Why the Hell should anyone here welcome an a- hole who does an intro so "somebody will stop bitchin"? Its no wonder he got the "go the fuck away" reception. I don't think anyone here wants to run off someone willing to listen & learn. Attitude is everything. I ain't saying new guys should kiss ass- just don't come into Ryan's garage w/ a friggin' chip the size of a bowling ball on yer shoulder.

Phew, glad my intro came and went with no backlash, of course i didn't insult the entire board or say I like VW's either. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
To me VW's are like big women.......Or was that mopeds and big women??

Pray tell, what does one do with a blank firing Glock 17? Pretend to shoot someone? It sounds like having a cut-away demonstration engine in a hot rod. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Or is it like in that Guy Ritchie movie where the two guys have guns that say 'replica' on the side? LOL
Not tryin' to jerk your chain, just curious about what a fella does with a gun that don't shoot.

ONE: isn't pulling a "blank firing Glock" on someone a good way to find yourself dead?

I have a request now that this post is back on the first page again. Can we stop responding to it so it goes away? Please... Nine pages wasted talking about this guy?
