looks like i'll be pullin an all nighter to get the Bug ready for the Hot Rod Reunion this weekend. i plan to leave about 6am tommarow morning. LOTS still left to do on the Bug. two fenders, one running board, new exhaust, all the windows, the entire interior and the sliding rag top (that'll be the hard part and if i have to i'll put it together AT the show.). also gotta instal the new shifter and bolt the wheels back on. at least i got Studeboy and Mongo comin over to help out, hope they can HANG for as long as it takes.

this is the side that is "done"....

PROGRESS REPORT: 2:15am, Studeboy, Jake the neighbor kid and myself are still hard at it. Mongo passed out over 2 hours ago. he can be pretty UGLY if he does'nt get his beauty sleep so we let him go without giving him the ribbing he so obviously deserves http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. it's been an entire week of 9 hour days (at the real job) and 8 hours every night on the Bug. that means i'm up at 4:30am to go to work, get home about 4pm then work till midnight or so, hit the HAMB for a few minutes to unwind, then hit the shower then the sack. thats been my life this week.

well, i gotta get to the reason i came in here in the first place, gotta find info on how in the hell to install this friggin goofy headliner. worse comes to worse we run with only a partial interior, try to install the sliding rag top at the show and worry about the rest when we get home. just hope it does'nt rain TOO hard on while we're on the road or we'll have to hide out under an overpass or something and wait it out...

back to work....

Well, Kustombuilder decided he couldn't defeat the sleep bug. So he came in at 7am and went to bed...we're obviously not leave at 6am as planned http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif We'll be there late tonight.....got some loose ends to tie up on the bug...like head/tail lights....installing a few other things...but the major stuff is done and good to go http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Can't wait to get to KY http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i think i'e been defeated (for now). i can't get the damn dor glass to work right, i still have to figure out the lights and i am SOOO tired and frustrated i just don't care anymore. Studeboy and Jake finaly left at about 7am, Mongo woke up about that time and then left for the show, without us, while i was sleeping. that was one loooooong 26 hours i was up and working, and that is after an entire week of 20 hour work days. CB is PISSED but i just have the modivation, i feel like crap and all i want to do is sleep... so close, yet so far away.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

CB,
Don't let this one set back get you down. I'm sure Mike and the guys gave it their all. I know it's hard to have patience at a time like this but ALL of us that have built cars over the years know this thing is going to happen. If it was the LAST show of year then you would have more to be disappointed about but it isn't even JULY yet so you will have lots of good cruisin time left so cheer up. It isn't a matter of life or death although sometimes is seems to be much more important that that http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif!

I wasn't mad....I was disappointed yes, but not in the guys' efforts...they did so much work in such little time. But some unforseen stupid bug things came up....so, we're not going to the show at all now - mikes to friggin tired! Theres 2 local shows here this weekend, one on Sat. one on Sun. So we'll try and hit them. Took the bug for a test drive today....it got a lil hot, so it's prolly a good thing we didn't drive it to KY for it's maiden voyage - but that's the adventure part, right? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif It looks awesome, it's so cute....I just hope it lets me learn to drive it someday http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

WOW!! just got up from my SIXTEEN HOUR nap!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif damn is my back killin me, but i feel better otherwise.

Studeboy is comin over to help me wire up the lights, then were all headin to the left side of the state for our buddy Dave's car show. prolly be at the Charlton park show tommarow too. we don't need no stinkin door glass, rag top, door panels or headliner http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif!!!

i'm so pissed i'm missing my favorite show of the year, but it'll be alright. at least now i can finish the little things on the Bug at a much more leasurly pace. gotta order a few small parts we did'nt realize were broke/missing anyway.

here she yesterday morning just before we took her for a ride, and my little "nap".

well your pic answred my question of if it was one piece windows that were giving you problems. guess not. that was my first assumption as those things never fit right out of the kit. i gave up on using kits for it after my 2nd bug and from then on just had glass cut and made everything. it was no more trouble than modifying the one piece kits i had bought to actually work. looks real good. in my opinion it needs a coupla things to be done first a roof rack. second to be a little closer to the earth. with all the shit they make to drop these cars now it 100 times easier than it was 10 years ago when they were all i played with. third a set of BRMs just think they would be the nicest wheel for the paint combo. i've got a set of originals in mint shape stored away for a future bug project which is fastly moving up the priority list. the little lady bought a viper silver 2000 New Beetle at the first of the year and i want to put a set of the new BRMs for it on it but they are way pricey. that and the Parts is Parts roof rack for the new beetle. speaking of which since fab work is your thing on the parts is parts website they are selling all their tooling and such for building the original roof racks. theirs were the only one that were exact replicas of the vw rack. would be a good way for someone like yourself to make a whole new income. i actually thaught of you when when i saw that a few days ago since you a such a fabricator and a vw fan. anyhow this went way long the point is car looks damn good...ken....
oh yeah here is a silver new beetle like my wifes with the new BRMs...........

Kustombuilder and CB,the thrash was worth it. That's one killer bug.
Sorry 'bout Bowling Green, it is better to take the time to de-bug the Bug prior to a long road trip.

Again, that is very sharp little Kar.

Well hey, at least the fenders and running boards are pretty easy to install, no weldon or anything, just a bunch of bolts..just rock it with no windows http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

kustombuilder

not a big fan of BRMs, the roof racks are cool, (on someone elses car) and the beam is adjustable and will go a bit lower in front but it is pretty low now and needs new shocks real bad so it will stay this heght till the "bugs" are worked out of it. if i go much lower it'll get bags but i don't see that happening ay time soon, unless CB take on a second job. i'm about done spending my hot rod money on it, it's her turn, i have my own projects i need to attend to.

we just put close to 200 miles on it today. only problems was it got a little hot and we had to let it sit before it would start again, it leaks oil BAD! and also the two times it was hot and would'nt start the starter stuck ON even when i turned the key off http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. the taillights quite working half way there too. it'll all get worked out.

did i mention how i had to cut the shit outa the brand new exhaust so that it would go on?? it hit the oil filter and held the exhaust about an inch from bolting up to the motor so i had to cut one section of tube out and get real creative, then weld it all back together.

here it is at my buddy Dave's little car show today..

Just found this thread again and see that there is a more relaxed attitude going on now. I hope everything gets done so the car is REALLY roadworthy, You would have probably had a ton of problems on the road if you had gone to Bowling Green. I guess the driving lessons could start any time. I think a week on the road will get you used to driving a stick. Too bad Mike can't go, there just won't be any room with our luggage in the back seat. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
