Jigger, man... you and I must ride the same wavelength some days... Diggin' your work again this week (your stuff has movement, character, and what I'm reeferring to as the "DAAAAAMN.... Effect".) Tell Jordan I dig his work, too!
nate, that's awesome!
KCSledz, as always, your stuff rocks.
DIRTYDAG, amazing work!
...as I said earlier, same basic page as Jigger this week, only I saw a bowtie, versus his blue oval.... whipped up a version of a car that's been haunting my dreams since grammar school:

Is it Friday again?, Jigger, its nice to see them youngins pickin up something other than a video game, wonderful. I got one more thing if I can get it done in time, but for now here is one for MoparBruce and his project he is planning out. I couldn't resist a challenge. Its a 37 Dodge sedan, with a Desoto hemi, Model A wheels. Bend the grille out of tubing and add your favorite shift knob at the bottom. Change it every week if you want too! I imagined it on its madien voyage doing a burnout for somebody's YouTube viewing pleasure. Yes , its flat black.:D More later.

It's not quite Friday yet "officially anyway" and already this thread is starting off to be another breathtaking art display.

I wish I had an illustration for this week but all I got is a photo from the salt.

Great work everyone! Can't wait to see what else shows up.

"Caught Ya Lookin" seems an appropriate name for this piece.

Hope the text isn't lost on ya. War's no joke and I so appreciate the scrifice of those who serve. God Bless 'em!!!

Cool! We got most of the bases covered already! Sketches, Screens, Logo's, Illustration, Hot Rod Monster Art, Pinstripe's… Good stuff as usual guys.

So now we need some Airbrush… Here's my latest jacket for a customer. I know it's not a hot rod or kustom, I'd rather spend my energy painting pictures of slammed, multi carbed, flathead powered, rusty, model-A coupes any day of the week. But the guy's who drive those cars never hire me to paint jackets for em… so!!!?? I was a founding member of the "Road Zombies" And came up with their name, their Logo, and their Plaque design, so you know were my heart really lives.

Once you put up that shingle, you can't always turn stuff down. The guy's a nice guy, and had the cash. Plus he did a good job restoring this truck. So… And one thing about shinny paint… reflections! And one thing about airbrush… they were made to render reflections all day long. That's his buddy’s 38 Chevy coupe reflected in the paint.

Hey Tingler! You’ve been kinda’ silent recently. I dig your stuff, Where you at?

....holy shit.

(all I got to say)

Not much from me lately. Here are a few small ones I just sold.
I like doing these little paintings and selling them for a fair price......I get a kick out of thinking that all these paintings are going places I'll likely never be.

The first one is called DOPER TIKI. Seems like all my tikis have been getting hooked on dope lately. They're all becoming idols of self destruction. They all smoke or drink or take drugs in some way.....and I'm afraid they are only going to get worse. ;)

Hey everybody -

Just a shout-out to say a big thanks to all of you guys who sent artwork for the upcoming silent auction at the HAMB Drags. Your response was overwhelming. What amazing talent (and generosity!) we have here!

I've got all the stuff mounted on sturdy cardboard and will have each piece individually displayed. Also, I attached business cards if you sent them, and will have the extras readily available.

Watch for photos of this year's auction site when I get back from MoKan.

P.S. Your names have already been tossed into the "Big Sounds" drawing, and I'll get your "Donor" pins in the mail next week.

What if...
What if you had as much Ferrari blood as hot rod blood in you?
Here's my idea of what might happen.

The recipe...
start with a '32 roadster
clip it to a boat tail. Add an Indy roadster grill shell.
Perhaps a Ford V8 with Weber carbs.
Get rid of the windshield and install
a pair of windscreens like a 60's Formula 1 car.
Some headrests. Bullet style mirrors.
And of course Ferrari alloys.

Maybe Henry would approve.

Ciao goombas!

Dont know if anyone gives a rats ice but we did paint the feature bike in Biker Magazine this month. I forgot to post about this earlier this month. There are a few more days to grab it at the newsstand before the new issue comes out. It is a lace and stripe job under a custom SEM candy. Sorry I dont have any better shoots of the work they all have tits in them.
Its funny a few years ago all I wanted was a cover bike. A few years back we stopped painting bikes and started only painting helmets. I still paint bikes for my buddies and high profile projects that I can get into. Its like when I do a bike or a race car it is for the fun of it or a hobby. We focus on the helmets and nothing is more important than the helmet work. It is our number one priority but it is cool to see our fun work make the magazines and get a little recognition. I also love telling the guys that tried to take advantage of me when I first started that we dont paint bikes after they see my work win a show or make a magazine.

Gary C. , Jigger, Zombie and all the rest, another very cool Friday art show. I'm posting Mitch's contribution for him. It is twisted but kinda fits this weeks overall theme. It's a trailer park custom piece called 5 Days Without a Fight... that's a record for most trailer parks but tomorrow is Friday and well big Momma's gonna cut loose...Yes she is disgusting, hard to look at and you can figure out the rest of the story-----better yet make up your own. This is meant to be entertaining, funny and disturbing. If you are offended that is an added bonus. Again, great art and last week had to be a top ten showing??? Joe

This is the wooden hand carved head of Dragnut. This is the last figure that will go on the Finkosel.
The black line is the epoxy that holds the two head halves together,(they're carved separately) . The black "staples" are called pinch dogs. They're the neatest thing since sliced bread as you use them to clamp irregular shapes.
The teeth are corian solid surface countertop material and each is inset into the gums individually.

I've had this Spotlite model car book sinc I was 8 years old . The one model that tore me up was this 55-57 Chevy truck. I never could build it because in 1968 they just didn't have a 55 Chevy truck on the shelves, so I did without. Never thought about drawing it till now. It was built by Tom Bush of Cupertino, California. It makes you wonder if it would work because he didn't cut the bumpers down to make them fit, hmmm.
Well, I took it a step further and customized it little more. Still has the 58 T-bird interior and 58 Buick rear bumper. It would be easy to shape the tail light beaks and fender extensions out of foam and fiberglass. They got a 55 Chev feel to them. I think a little flare would look good at the bottom of the body and the wheel openings. French and extend the headlights. Cut out the liscence mount and fill in with other bumper sections, weld seams. Use some dummy spots for grille bullets, bullet out the bumpers and wheels too. I used some Cadillac wires .Chop it. Bag it. I bet this will be at Paso Robles soon!
Just something to think about. Them kids had good ideas a long time ago, I just stole this one, if you are still out there Tom, I hope you don't mind!
Also a constuction shot of the hood.
Worked on this one till 2a.m. , I hope it was worth it.
See ya later!:D

No drawings for me this week but here is an old project I started working on again. Its originally an AMT/ERTL 1972 chevy truck model car.
I went from this:
http://erbellastudios.com/sitephotos/p1972truck001.jpg

to this:
http://erbellastudios.com/sitephotos/p1972truck002.jpg
http://erbellastudios.com/sitephotos/p1972truck003.jpg

mods include:
chopped roof (to build me a roadster:D )
front has been hacked off, now its got a '53 corvette roadster front,
engine cutout on hood,
shaved handles, smoother body
i wasn't sure what to do with the bed so i glued in
some balsa wood strips, slapped on the putty and "sealed" it

http://erbellastudios.com/sitephotos/p1972truck004.jpg

now it has that "heavysled" look......

http://erbellastudios.com/sitephotos/p1972truck005.jpg

next stage: sanding & paintjob
hopefully be done in the next few weeks...
will post the final build to share....

Looks cool Cory. Funny how the text says the modeler used a '58 Caddy front end. Looks kinda a little more like a '59 to me but, hey, what do I know, I was born after '60 anyway.
(Funny thing is some of those model mag guys still, for as many cars as they build, make these mistakes. I'm sure it's just a typo and it's the editors who miss it. Yeah,...the editor,...that's the ticket!

Hate to hijack, but i dont know where else to ask and i dont think it deserves its own thread.....

I have been wrestling this in my brain....I have been doing this picture modification thing for a little while (only with my own shots), and while some of them take very little time (think quick sketch), others take several days and a lot of frustration to get to where i am happy with them. My girlfriend is an artist (mostly mixed media, acrylics, and charcoal) and i know quite a few artists and pinstripers so i know how much work goes into that stuff so it makes it hard for me to call what i do art, but i enjoy it and still think it is worth doing because i enjoy looking at what i have done.

What do you guys think about art and photography and the computer as canvas? Should i call it art? should i relegate it to my harddrive and the walls in my house when i am finished or put it up for people to see? dont sugarcoat it, just give me your honest opinion. thanks in advance

Rob

probably should correspond by PM to keep this an art thread....

nate
08-24-2007, 03:35 PM
rob, I'm not sure i really understand what it is you're talking about, but I know a lot of guys start with a photo and use illustrator/painter/photoshop to get where they're going. I think it's cool. Sometimes i post a pencil sketch that takes me 10 minutes, i'm not about to tell a guy that's spent 5 hours on a digital work that mine is art and his isn't. I'd say post it!

hellbound gasser
08-24-2007, 03:40 PM

Whats so killer about the art show is there are all kinds of mediums used. Everything from pencil sketches, photography, to full on computer generated stuff. Thats why I like trolling, you never know what your going to find from week to week.
Plus the inspiration of the really great artists here, makes you want to just get out there and create something! Doesn't matter what medium you use or where you get your ideas.

Gary C. , Jigger, Zombie and all the rest, another very cool Friday art show. Joe
