A good friend dropped by last night and we pushed the roadster into the street for some pictures. Here's the first of three. That's my friend (Casey) in the picture.

Here's a couple of pics with some Discs snapped in place for everyone wanting to see them on a car. This first picture sucks...it's nice and blurry too.

Sweet. The discs and the car look great!

It was really nice to see my car sitting on the street instead of crammed into the hole in the background. Made me feel like I've made some real progress... Ryan, get ready to fire the welder up. I'm finding a trailer next week.

Feels good to get it out and take a good look at it, doesn't it. I think it is an important part of the build, you need to step back every once in a while and make sure things are looking right.

That being said, it looks like the back of the body could come up just a little to make the body lines flow with the hood line better. Just a thought. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Keep us posted on the progress.

I like it, if it means anything to ya. What are the plans for the windshield?

Those spun aeros are really cool !!

They remind me of those rare Kelsey Hayes solids they used to make for Ambulances and stuff....17'' , though I think.

Anyone else know what Im on about ?

Kevin Lee

I noticed that too - and it really looks bad in the second picture.....but oddly not so much in the profile shot in my opinion.

Neal, whether you know it or not you may have just solved my radiator space issues. Right now the nose is sitting stupid low at about 2" off of the road. I was done fooling with it so I figured if I smash it I smash it...I can build another. The plan: Leave the body, raise the nose a few inches to move the hood line. And I'll end up with the space I need to run that stupid cheap radiator I found. I'll see how ugly and stinkbug it looks tonight when I mock it up. Man, the next car I build is going to go so much smoother than this.

I dig the discs.
It looks like it's about ready to race.

Quick photshop. Doesn't look bad does it? I'd probably need to build a new hood top, but I wouldn't need it right away...and I could use aluminum this time.

Edit: Probably not quite that tall - that's pretty flat. I think the hood will need a LITTLE downward slope with a track nose, but I'm not going to sit here and photoshop it to death...I'll build it when I get home. Point is I think it's a workable plan and won't kill what I've done with the subfloor of the body. Lesson learned. I really should roll this heap out into the daylight more often.

My brother has a saying about cars that have soemthing out of proportion..."looks like they built that one in a one car garage", meaning they never stood back and took a good look.

I know the body is probably harder to move than the grill, but here is the body shifted up about 3 degrees in the back.

Now I'm done photohacking too, we can both go to the garage and build real cars http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Something else to throw in - I'll be switching the rears from 600-16 to 750-16's. I'm a damn genius.

There you go. I think that would be easier than raising the body http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif That should set your ride height real nice, fixing the backwards rake.

Carry on.

My genius comment was meant to be a dig at myself. 750-16's might not fix it completely...and I'm okay with that. I have to admit I like a backwards rake sometimes. It really works on Tom Branch's car. I've seen others it works on too. I'd call the Pierson Coupe "neutral"? Completely different styles all around and there's no denying a forward rake is roots. But backwards seems to work on those cars and some others, maybe it will work on mine?

Damn those discs are fine!!!

Kevin Lee

Didn't mean to intentionally ignore anyone.

Ian - They don't fit on the back. It's tough, I WANT to tell everyone about the ideas, the plans, but it's all talk until you can order it. Patience. From here on out it has to go down exactly the same way the Aero Disc did.

Windshield - I have plans and parts but it is probably last on my list of things to do after it's on the road. It's just going to be a short flat frame. A roadster style. Definitely removable.

Nads - Thanks, I appreciate it.

FWIW I realy like the backward rake.It harkens back to the early times when everyone wasn't preoccupied with looks alone.Looks more "OLD SCHOOL" Nice job.....

Lookin' good there, Grim. Add some belly pan or at least side panels and you in bidness. Aero's the bomb as well!

Wow, the modified has come a long way since the last pics I saw. I had the same comment as Neal--it looks like the body is riding a bit low on the frame in the rear. Sounds like you've got it under control.

Nice wheel covers, too. I predict a dramatic upswing in the number of Hilborn modified clones built in the next couple of years...

Not too far from Kc, here in Joplin.
would be glad to help, plus I gets to see that Beast in person?

JimC - 160 miles just to tow a car 40 blocks? Man, It only has to go across town to Ryan's for some welding. If nothing else I'll just head down to U-haul and rent...but I think I'll get something worked out here. Thanks for the offer though.

In the words of a very old (and on the other side) friend "Tuff".
Ya need a push bar bad bro. The little lakster will look sweet in front of a push truck when you dump the clutch @ 40.
BTW If you ever need a trailer I can usually borrow one.

I missed a couple of posts. Crap it all. I used to run 900s on the back of all my streeters. I guess its a 60s thing. They are huge but they would never work on the salt.

Looks good Grimmy!

I second Neal's comment about raising the back of the body. It looks like it's sagging right now... the dropped nose is PERFECT... if you raise it, it will make the hood look like it is going up hill. This happens because of the taper on the hood from cowl to shell... it's an optical illusion, but you have it licked by the low-nose. The raising of the body is more of a move to get the bottom of the body on a visual rake with the ground.

The disks kick butt,

Sam.

Kevin Lee

I mocked some stuff up last night. I'm going to cut two long tapered wood shims to raise the rear of the body a bit. The hood can be saved by trimming it back at the cowl. I also yanked the motor to get the chassis ready to be trailered. While it's away I can finish the body and go through the motor with a little more room to work. Time to start rounding up gaskets and seals for the motor.

Grimlok, I have a new pair of 750/16 blackwalls if you need them. They are firestones that I bought for my coupe, but look too big to suit me. DAVE
