My name is Jim. I'm 37 years young. My dad is a member and has been for some time. Although I don't know that much about cars, The cars made in the 30's interest me the most. I own a 1931 Ford model A 2-door Phaeton wanna-be. The car was originaly out of Texas. The car came with a 327. But we found a 1956 Desoto 4-door piece of crap with a 330 Hemi with a 4-barrel carb for $100.00. That is not a miss print. Which we are determined to make fit in this tiny little Ford. I ordered many parts for this carfrom Hot Heads including cast aluminum timing chain cover to accept sb chev water pump and matching pulleys, plug wires, motor mounts,polished aluminum valve covers which are backordered. This car also has a 32 grill, gas tank, and dash. The body of course will be in dull ass black primer and flames. A rat rod is the only way to drive. Welcome Jim.............You must be Jim Jr, right? Was that your late 20's Dodge sedan in your dad's shop a few years ago? Maybe you have another brother or two, huh?
As a fellow Homie of Orygun, I've not heard of Gervais either but it's gotta be on the wet side of the mountain.
And about finding tin around the Bend area? I gotta true story for ya's.......
Going to highschool in Redmond [16 miles north of Bend], my buddies and I had several interests we'd persue on weekends....the ones in addition to drinking beer and chasing women..
One was rabbit hunting and another was old tin hunting. Now, I really don't remember how we came to be in the sagebrush and juniper trees south of Bend but I believe one of the other guys in school turned us onto.......er, told us about [some of my vernacular shows a little of "other" interests I usta persue] some old cars parked in a depression in the sage brush...couldn't see them from the road.
I remember the location was south of town, off hiway 97 and not too far from the old abandoned hiway behind the truck scales where we usta all gather to drag race...
Anyway, we grabbed our 22's and shotguns [only wusses use shotguns to murder cottontails] and we ventured out in my buddy Jim's 50 Ford 2 door one bright, sunny morning.
I can't remember if we got any rabbits that day but we definetely found a mother load of tin! There weren't any houses around for a good 10 miles but we found the low-spot with the old cars in it. It's been so long ago, prolly 1964, that I really can't remember what all we found but several cars stand out in my hazy memory. There were numerous mid to late 30's fords--coupes and sedans. I popped a horn cover off a 36 coupe front fender and carried it around with me for many years...used it as an ash tray cover when I still smoked. There were also several GM products too. I remember a silver 37 Buick 2 door sedan. I remember it because it was the Century model...the small wheelbase Buick with the 320 "big block" straight 8. The car was complete, original and cherry. Musta had some mechanical problem because the body was nice!
There were also 2 Lloyds in the mix. I'd never seen a Lloyd before that day. One was a 2 door sedan and one was a little 2 door wagon. These were the narrowest cars I'd ever seen! Couldn't have been much more that 4 feet wide and not much taller.
We didn't haul any cars home with us that day. Even at 16, both of us had too many projects at our parent's houses.
Anyway, that's my story and I'm stickin to it.

Used to be the guy on hill-top accross from what used to be Danielson's Thriftway, which now has the theater in the back lot an old scrap yard. Well back when the theater was in its first life as a skating rink and even in its second life as an indoor soccer field. In the front lot Rocky had a bunch of old stuff that he never would let me get a good look at. One day he decided to clean the yard and I don't know where it all went. I think he hauled some out to his storage on Thayer Rd. I need to track him down when I come for my OCHS 10yr reunion this summer. Maybe I can get my hands on something!

Hey I've got the brakes and wiring done on the 49 poncho, bringing into the shop to finish the tail lights. and then its off to the muffler shop to get straight lakes pipes hooked to the split exhaust manifold. I might have some hot air flowing thru those louvers yet!
