Hey there!

I was getting my daughter Lily ready for school this morning and she pulled out three "hot rod pictures" she drew over the weekend while she was staying at my parent's house.

I was so impressed! She's six...

Note the smoking tires and flames on the Model A!

That's my girl!

Watch out,
You're going to embarrass some of the adult "artists" on the board! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great art work! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That kid has real talent. Be sure she gets all the art supplies she needs! Most kids twice her age couldn't draw that well.

Are you sure she drew those? Or did she steal them from JEEM? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Those pictures are really cool, hang on to them for her! I can't get my six year old away from the cartoons long enough to draw. Those are great! I know your Dad, she didn't get the idea of flames and smokin tires from him did she...

Like VonTingler said, she does well with perspectives, which is something you don't often see. A lot of folks (not just kids) still draw only side shots...

We're not kidding. Most kids don't understand or recognize perspective until much later. My ex taught art and I teach it at the college level. I'm sure you'll do everything to encourage her art.

Heres a picture of a drawing i did when i was about 8 i think. I quit drawing once i started building model cars, now i quit building model cars once i started building a real car.

This drawing is funny, It was a drag race, notice all the "sponsors" i put on the grand stand awning. lol. I just thought the sponsors were names of cars i didnt know what they really were. Notice the one sponsor "1934 Ford Model A" haha. well im done with my rant and crappy art. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Back to Lily. Those are amazing!!
A horizon in every one. (Not one of the car's rolling along some line across the page.) And details like hood latches on the modified roadster (my favorite). AND...the 40 Chev (in 3/4 view!!) is clearly recognizeable.
Some times some part of the world is a nice place. Thanks for sharing. -Keith

WOW. That is amazing. She draws what she sees, not what she thinks she sees - if that makes any sense. The perspective is incredible.

This thread made me this of this ...

The block behind me had a block party this weekend. Lots of kids running around and by the end of the night, the entire street (the street itself) was covered with children's chalk drawings. I mean tip-to-tail covered.

I thought it was pretty awesome.

And then the next day, the adults moved all the cars, got out their hoses, and washed it all away. This wasn't just one jerk, it was a group of about 5 adults.

I couldn't believe it. What a WASTE.

With parents like this, those kids are doomed. City living depresses the hell out of me sometimes. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Point is -- do everything to encourage art for your kids! It makes the world a much better place.

(Minor -- I love that picture of your daughter painting on your car. She looks incredible proud.)

Buy that kid good drawing supplies, a few books/magazines, AND a couple striping brushes and some big boards to try that--I agree her perspective is VERY sophisticated, and she sees both shape and detail--give her some good tools and a few leads NOW and get out of the way! I would LOVE to see what she would do if given a five minute intro to striping.

I'm very impressed with those drawings. On the last one, I dig the five lug wheel and the 3/4 view. By the end of the show season, you might need a bigger refrigerator to hang them all up on. Wonderful stuff!

Just wanted to say thanks for everyone's words of encouragement for my girl. I showed her the post and she thought it was cool to see her drawings on the net. You can bet that she'll be encouraged in all she does.

I was lucky enough to have parents who supported all my hairbrained schemes and today I feel like I can do anything I set my mind to. I can only hope that Lily will feel the same empowerment. I create paintings as a means of supporting my various hobbies and she usually sets up an easel next to mine when I'm working on something for a client. I figure the best gift we can give her is exposure to all sorts of interesting stuff and to encourage her to try anything she develops an interest in.

I love the trunk lid art! That's awesome!
