I went up to the KKOA show in Gettysburg, PA this weekend. I saw a few HAMB cars (Scary Larry, Kustom 7777) but unfortunately I didn't catch up with any HAMBers. Good show...some really nicely built customs from very mild to the full treatment. There are 26 pictures, so give me a minute to get them all up here because I still don't know how to do multiple shots in a post.

This Chevy was the first car I saw when I walked in, and it was as straight as can be.

The color on this Buick was really striking. It doesn't show up as well in the pics, but it was a super dark blue that had a really nice purple haze to it when the sun hit it. It turned out to be an off-the-shelf '91 GM paint code!

Some detail of the same Chevy. The striping didn't show up as well in the pics, but like the rest of the car it was subtle and really cool...

Great Pics! Is 435821, the 56 Chev an old Winfield custom? It's been around a while.

The last pic of the Buick is perfect. Great angle of the photo. Extended quarters with Packard lites and bubble skirts, can't get any more classic than that.

That car was killer! I have a picture of the mill, but I don't think it's in the stack of shots that I grabbed for some reason.

The striping on the Barris car was awesome. I've seen Mack 00's work on here, but it was killer to see it in person. Thanks for the info on that - and sorry I didn't get to meet you guys.

I think that Chevy was a Winfield car by the way. It looked very familiar, but I couldn't place it.

Thanks for the compliments on the shots...I'll pass them along to my wife - she was the shooter!

That last post of an old photo looks like Lanny Erickson's car. Does it have a 50 Merc back glass. If so... we helped Lanny find it in Canada a few years ago and he is now in Texas and planning on re-doing the car. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

06-14-2004, 12:18 PM
Yes, I'm pretty sure it is the Erickson car. It's one of those prints that Winfield sells at the shows.

Now that I look at the two pictures, the Erickson car looks chopped more than the one at Gettysburg. Glad to hear the car is alive in Texas.

Tuff Tin
06-14-2004, 12:36 PM
Yeh! Lanny retrieved it from British Columbia probably 12 to 13 years ago and then move to Louisiana and lately to Texas. Last I talked to him he had another body as the original was rusted up bad but had the intentions of doing it. Man! I was shocked to see the other one. Only 56 chopped Chevy I ever knew of with a 50 Merc back glass and yes! Lanyy worked for Windfield (I think it was Windy) and did the original car in that shop. Used to know whys and hows but my memberer quit memberin' http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Curt- I missed Saturday, but I was there on Sunday. I was hanging out with Luke from Kustoms Illustrated. That Duece Three window belongs to Dave Leather. Its an old East Coast built rod from the fifties. Lots of history..

Can't believe my old C-Dan won a trophy for "Best Hot Rod"???

Next year I'll make it up for Saturday, Sunday was pretty much a wash out..

I would have liked to have seen that dark blue paint in person. I've been looking for late-model paints like that -- ones that appear black but light up in the sun.

I went up Saturday, around 2:30, and was pretty dissapointed. First off who ever heard of having to pay $10 just to walk around for an hour, look at the same cars, and a half assed swap meet? I couldn't stay for the concert cuz I had other thing to do back home 1&1/2 hours away. But thats not worth bitchin about... what IS, is the fact that I invited my Bro-in-law, Sister, and their 18 month old gearhead to come see the show with me. They asked me if it cost anything to get in. I told them as far as I know its a free show(I checked the KKOA site B-4 leaving, no mention of admission) We get there find out its $10 a person, They had a $20 on them and I didnt bring any money(didnt think I'd need to) My sis gave me the twenty told me to have fun and they'd meet me back at the playground. I went in mainly to see if it was possible to let them in w/o paying. I talked to 2 people and both of them were ol farts with something stuffed so far up there ass they forgot how to be polite. I'll spare you the details, but the one thing I understood about this "klub" is it felt like they do this for themselves and not for the people, which, without the people they wouldn't have a show! Now, I know I'm bitchin about a $10 ticket, but look at it this way... York Streetrod Nats= $10 now thats worth it, and Carlise shows/swap meets usually less than $10. SO WHAT YOU HAD A LOCAL BAND! I was there for the cars! So next year... you can take your show and stuff it! I'll just be kickin back watchin the cars go by FOR FREE!

Granted the KKOA show is not as good as it was in previous years. However, they have always charged admission (hard to make money without it), and Blane (the guy who runs G-burg show) is a really nice guy. And the G-burg KKOA is by far the best custom show in that area.

Oh yeah, how bout an intro and some pics of yer rides?

HaHAHA Good it seems as though I ruffled a few feathers. Quick to snap boys, arent we? You know what, if your too fucking lazy to hit my profile then screw you, your not worth my time either!
I'm on OSR forum 90% of the time and just stop in now and then to see if anything interests me. I coulda swore I put an intro up a WHILE back but I could be mistaken. JUST BECAUSE I PUT UP 1 FREAKIN POST DOESN'T MEAN THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE BEEN HERE!
DUCK? Look man, I kinda wish I spoke to Blane, cuz the guy I spoke to wasnt nice nor hospitable. As far as the "best" kustom scene,... you need to get out more.
CURTSIX I'll blow it out my ass once you stick it up yours! No!, I didnt get my ten bucks worth and who the hell are you to know weather I have anything to contribute.
SPIKE Again with the intro,... curious bunch arent we? Was I bitchin at you? NO! then keep your nose up your own ass! Speakin of "not a good idea" its not a good idea to show how much of an asshole you are to "newbies" although you probably dont even give two shits but that just speaks more of who you are!
SLAG Look I just got done having lunch at Hoss's and didnt want to waste time pickin up money I didnt think I need. If I saw something I wanted I would have gone to the local ATM and pulled some cash out. Most of the time I have cash on me but I always got plastic! Unlike you, I dont like "pissin" my money away I like putting it toward my car.
RATRODDER Lets see it took me no more than a half hour to type all that up. If I earn $20/half hour I wouldn't be wasting my time bitchin to you guys, I'd be out there cruising in my $50,000 ride.
Now if anyone else has something intelligent to add you know where to reach me. Oh and just for you lazy asses who dont want to, or know how to, check my profile I'll be adding an intro to make it official Ok?

I'm gonna say this now before things get outta hand and people get the wrong idea.
I came to gripe about KKOA and nothing more, I thought that was allowed. You know, speaking your mind.
I get all this negative B.S. back because I spoke my mind and what am I supposed to do?, back down? The hell with that! Yea I got a "tude" but its only cuz it was shoveled on me first. The way I look at it is, if you can fling **it, you better as well be able to catch **it.
To all the kool/mellow guys out there I'm sorry if this interupts your normal way of HAMB life. If its wrong to get things of my chest tell me now. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I need to get out more?

I've seen the custom scene in plenty of places, and I know that good old Lancaster County is NOT the hotbed of customs. As a matter of fact, I probably know most of, or know of, most of the best customs in that area.

As stated earlier, if you would have walked around, you would have got your money's worth. And if you would have stopped and talked to Frank and Carol, they would have given you a FREE beer to boot!

As for the intro thing, it would be like me walking into your garage while you're under your 37 or your truck, and just start bitching about one thing or another. It's just common courtesy, but I think you've already had your chance to make a first impression.

Now get back to churning the butter, Amos.

Lucky - Hey man! Good to hear from you. I'm not playing with The Twin Six anymore, but my good buddy Tim took my place and they're still going at it. I took the same route you did and quit playing in a decent band to try to work on some cars. Heh heh...how are things going down there?

Thanks, Curt. I wrote the code down and will try to find a swatch. I'm not ready to do paint anytime real soon, but I'm always looking. If I go with something like that, I was leaning more towards something with a red/purple hue as an homage to my original color combo (black on red). I hope to change the interior to white tuck-n-roll, so the red will disappear inside.

I'm really sorry I missed the KKOA show. I know I would have been inspired.

Olskool37, just take it easy. You didn't follow ettique and people called you on it. You were wrong. Accept responsibility and clean up your poopy pants attitude. You switched to "attack other" mode to diminish your own shame. Once you are more in touch with your own feelings you'll be better prepared to regulate them appropriately.

Hey, Curt, sorry I didn't get to meet you! I was there all 3 days. I'm the NJ rep for late models, and had to wear the "white shirt" all weekend, pulling gate duty, too, as well as judging. The show was a bit of a disappointment, due to the weather, but it is still the bist custom event in the east, if you ask me! Kustom7777 was there, and we had a blast eating and drinking on Sat. night, as well as parking lot racing.
Skate Fink...where were you???????????? We missed ya!
olschool...you sir are a complete ASS. As well as an idiot. Every car show I've ever gone to, has an admission fee. I've paid $15 to get into a local indoor show, and have seen everything in a half hour. Ten measley bucks to see close to 500 Kustom cars is nothing. AND a concert as well, whether you decided to see it or not, it was part of the program. And yeah, I'm not so old, but I'd get pretty grumpy at a bunch of low lifes trying to scam their way into a car show for free, when everyone else is paying.
Go away, if you don't like it.

Look, this is THE last time I'm going to acknowledge anyones comments about MY behavior. If you dont like it then dont read my posts. As far as being an "ass", or maltempered(get in touch with my feelings?), you dont know the first thing about me. If you go by first impressions, your no better then the people who dont read the entire book, just because you dont like the first page. As far as addmission prices into car show, I've been to free car shows. Lancaster County Crusers, the Blue Moon Cruisers, and Vagabonds Car Club all hold shows that are free to the public and I'm sure there's others. But of course LCC & BMC are non profit clubs that dont look for the money. I wasnt trying to scam anything, however, what would you call luring people to a show and not telling them gate price till they get there?
NOW I AM DONE WITH THIS BOARD FOR A WHILE DUE TO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK I RECEIVED.(u can cheer now) I'LL CHECK IN FROM TIME TO TIME SO IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER COMMENTS SEND THEM TO ME DIRECTLY INSTEAD OF TAKING UP SPACE HERE, UNLESS YOU LOOKIN FOR BROWNIE POINTS FROM YOUR BUDS
