My data sheets tell me that my film build should be 2-3 Mils thick. How thick is that in thousandths of an inch? Just wondering. Thanks

1 Mil = 0.001
A human hair is .001"-.003" thick... so that ain't very much, especially if you are going to color sand... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
(curly RCH = .001", straight course hair = .003") http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

do they not mean 2-3 millimetres?
a millimetre is 40 thou...
a paintjob HAS to be thicker than 0.003 of an inch. 2 or 3 mm, or 80 to 120 thou, sounds much closer to the mark to me...
jeeze man no not 2-3 millimeters ya wouldnt be able to open and close ya doors it's about 1000th of an inch ya need..........Marq

i think you're right. i'm too hungover to post i think http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Mil in imperial is 1/1000 of an inch. Mil in metric is a millimeter.
Leave it to us Americans to be stubborn and use imperial, but do enough metric stuff to it to make it all screwy.

Fraz is correct, .001 is one thousandth of an inch.
