anyone on here ever removed the rear springs from an f-1? it looks to me like to get the shackle pins out the spring hanger will have to be removed from the frame or holes drilled in the frame in line with the pins. the hangers are riveted to the frame. i could grind down the rivet heads and reinstall with grade 8 bolts, but would rather not if i don't have to.
surely someone has a secret that can help me do this easier.
please? this ain't gonna be pleasant if the rivets have to come out.
oh, yeah, i'm going to assume that the the pins are shot. i bet they are worn in the middle where the bushings are probably wore completely through. i'm assuming this because i disassembled one of the springs i'm going to use to replace the broken springs that are in clarence now. all these pins were worn in the middle and there's play in clarence's existing springs so it's a pretty sure thing that they're worn, too.
anyone know the best place to acquire pins and bushings? drake? carpenter? mack? other?
i've never replaced pins/bushings before. it looks pretty straightforward to me. any surprises i should expect? grease stuff up and tap in with a hammer? i imagine i should clean up the holes in the hangers with emery cloth or something, too?
