Incredible.... Thatīs just a different idea to get a tube grill....Now , itīs a real 1/4 mile car: at least a 1/4 mile of tubing have been plumbed to connect the turbos.
Iīm courious: Why no just run two big turbos at a higher pressure? That would save lots of weight and tubing...

That's on the same page as that picture of that yellow coupe in a thread the other day that had about a 6 foot tall accessory package sitting on top of it's motor.

Then there is this one... Two turbos and a blower. The guy that owns this runs a tuning company and it is destined for some serious strip work!!

The question I have is will they be able to find a set of tires that will hold all that power and hook up? Being that they are running street tires and not some huge ass top fuel tires. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

it's all about SHOCK VALUE. if it only had two turbos would people make as big a deal about it?? i don't think so. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

i wonder if it has musical wastegates? when you let off, it could play the dukes of hazard honk...

i couldn't imagine trying to tune that thing, even with efi. thats a lot of volume of tubing there. seems like it breaks some rules as far as smart turbo design goes. like, is each turbo fed off of one cylinder, or are they all combined on each bank, then split again to the turbos? man, theres just too much to go wrong! not that i'm negative or anything!

i've been peeking at my neighbors(at work) setup, he just switched to a centrifugally blown small block, 358 ci, bored/destroked 350, efi shootin alcohol, supposed to go to 2000 hp, well over 10000rpm, he blowed it up on the dyno at "only" 1200hp, leaned it out trying to get the fuel curve down. ouch. kinda funny considering he makes and sells high end fuel delivery systems! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That is serious waste of tubing, turbo's,and MONEY.
It may run......But I'll bet you it's a PIG. Probably takes a week to get the turbo's to spool up...........
What the fuck kind of an oil supply does he have to keep all eight turbos,AND the engine itself, lubricated properly, not to mention the COOLANT required http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Interesting design... I agree, I don't think it will be that effecient, but it certainly is wild!

I ran across one fella at a show that had a single turbo chevelle wagon. It was a 307 sbc, pretty stock other than O-ringed heads to handle the 27lbs of boost. It wasn't built for show, it was purely functional to the tune of 600hp on the dyno. He told me it he drives it all the time, even pulling a camper trailer. Interesting car... turbos are pretty sweet.

then more is batter,
and too much should be great.

Unless he's running some 900 cube big block it'll take forever to get pressure up with a turbo unit that big on each cylinder http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Waste of time and money, but hey, it's his time and money http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The guy is probably building a car to compete in the Street Machine of the year at Columbus. Each year it gets crazier (like the pro st cars back in the 80's and 90's)...

Ok I dont know everything there is to know about turbos but from everything I have ever learned, heard, seen before about them that thing is going to be nothing more than a tuning nightmare that doesnt make any usable power.

That car is just somebody with too much money showing what they can waste it on, and why did they have to do it to a 57.

Hey Alfster, whats the deal on the T'rana looks like a much more sensable deal, went to school with a dude with a twin turbo'd 351 in a dark 4 zephyer, it went o.k. by all counts.... but why in a mk4 ??

That was in competition for "Custom Rod of the Year" at GG DesMoines. It made the top 5 I believe. It runs and sounds OK, never heard it really reved up. It drew a large crowd all weekend.

Not to my taste at all.

I'm all for overkill and shock value, but that seems like an awful lot of work for 730hp/710ft-lbs when you can buy a 600+hp crate motor with a factory warranty!

I was thinking like Ray- It should play music..but I could only envision Circus calliope sounds coming from it. When I saw it in Columbus, I half expected 54 clowns to come popping out at any time...

He probably has heat problems, 8 turbos? My God man!

Scotch
07-23-2004, 05:39 PM
1Low- total PSI was only 12...none of them are working too hard. He could have made better power and had crisper response with one turbo...but then we wouldn't be here talking (laughing) about it..

It's a freak machine, and the rest of the car didn't look so hot. I'm all for crazy stuff, if it works. With 8 turbos, it'd better run 6s.

It doesn't...therefore...

...I must hate it.

LOL!!

If you watch the video, only a few of the downpipes start heating up at WOT, meaning there's flow/balance issues, and the outer turbos are venting most of the exhaust (air will take the path of least resistance) the inner ones (farthest away from the motor, tubing-wise) aren't really doing much and probably arent spooling hard enough to make boost.

It's all about the "bling." IMHO

The video of the ZL1 Camaro with 807 horsepower on the site is way more cool than that waste of time and money, looks like the guy has alot more fun with it on the road too. Why did the manifolds and exhaust tubing on the 57 light up like that? too much backpressure?

Car is owned/built by Steve Leerentveld from Queensland. It's a 308 Holden which initially "only" had the blower and twin carbs. Over the last 3-4 months he's added the turbos.

The car definitely runs, although I only saw it going on to a trailer.
