1st question, you always see auto trans coolers attached to the front of radiators, any reason I can't run mine on the backside? I have lots of fan clearance and it would save on routing hoses thru the inner fender to get around the radiator

2nd question, I've got an old locking gas cap that came on the truck (no key), how can I get that off without dropping the innards down the tank?

brake line tech tip!
I had my newly installed brakelines rubbing on the frame and bottom of motor mounts at the frame and thru a crossmember so what I did was get a few chunks of old windshield washer line split it gob grease ( to prevent water and crud from settling in and rusting it a more refined rig you could use some sort of drying silicone I guess?) in it and wrapped it over the brake line in them spots like a grommet, I am gonna do it to my fuel line as well were it touchs the frame

well , heard many reasons ,the extra heat of the tranny will not get as cool because of the heat from the radiator in front of itpassing through, the arguement seems odd to me as the factory ones are in the radiator , but iheard about thermal syphoning and heat transfer stuff the coolant helps transfer the heat, what kind of tranny ? i would go with a tranny pan with a cooler built in them they have em for alot of transmisions, nice clean install http://www.tsscoolers.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=WGPS&Category_ Code=coolerpan

its a turbo 350, the radiator is out of a ford truck that had a 390 engine in it

I'll look into one of them cooler pans as well since I have to pull the pan due to me getting some water in it at the car wash

I have the cooler on my '33 pick up mounted under the floor on the passenger side, basically under the seat area (horizontal).
It's a decent size B&M unit, and it's mounted on a slight angle down in the rear to pick up air as i'm driving it

I've put over 6000 miles on it (some hard, and many at 60 plus mph) like this and have had no problems at all.

You could do something like this, and if your worried about it not cooling enough, you could either built a scoop to direct air to it, or mount a small fan to it to keep a constant flow throught it...

The biggest killer of auto transmisions is heat. If your running a bigger than stock stall, your going to produce more internal heat. Just another thing to consider.
I think it's good idea to run a cooler, the bigger the better. Nothing wrong with having a little to much protection against overheating.

Tran's cooler: Mounting it in ft of rad. put's it in the air flow. You can run some high pressure rubber line's to it and then to rad. then back o tran's.Like the other HAMBer wrote:B&M make's a good unit to tuck for tight fit ride's.And adding (mo'$) a baby 'lectric fan to it.Those cooler tran's pan (they make deeper one's,more fluid) are a plus too.Shift kit's take away the slow(more heat) sloppy shift point's of the factory setting's.
