My dad's 51 Plymouth...
By the way, an S-10 "subframe" fits these cars nearly perfect, and the rear end & leaf springs ffrom the same S-10 are nearly a bolt-in!

Maybe you could "roadsterize" it ?

Klazurfer's droptop version looks pretty good. But with all due respect, the other examples don't convince me.
The low price you pay for the car today won't make up for the sadness tomorrow.

Why settle for cool, while you can have cool AND practical?

I like 'em. Lets see a couple of turbos on a 360. Straight axle, 10 spokes in front steelies in back. Gasser gasser gasser...
Wish I could photoshop one for ya.

I love that roadster! Is that a factory produced car? Any idea on the production numbers?

Yeah, a gasser would work. Whizzer Rick's trucklet version also looks good. Either of these would look OK because the original roofline is so heinously ugly -- the truck version justifies the harsh lines, a gasser's purpose-built attitude would ignore it.
Do not try too hard to build this car as a kool kustom. It's just too ungainly. If you simply want an old ugly car, GO FOR IT! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sure it can be cool, just park it beside a minivan... it'll look cool.
Looks good with a chop, and Whizzer's ute looks great. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That car is basically the coupe version of my car. The thing I hate about the coupes is their short roof and loooong trunk. In the picture it looks like the front fenders are molded into one piece. BE CAREFUL if they are. To do it right, you have to shorten the lower half of the fender to make it line up. Stock, there is slight "shelf" where the lower half meets the upper. Look at the primered version above, you can kind of see it. I've seen lots of them where they just weld the seam and transistion using bondo. A 360 would be easy to fit in there and a 9" from a '57-'59 ford is a true bolt in. They make disc brake and R&P steering kits too, if you don't want to go through the trouble of a clip. Mine has a fatman stub on it, but I know it would be alot less trouble to just update the stock IFS. I've seen a few with S-10 clips on them like Slide said and it does fit well.

Big chop, big slam, and big seaweed flames make em' real cool.
Heck, chops are tough. Even just the chop and flames would make it cool.
I love those cars.

There is one in my area that's a semi gloss dk blue, poverty caps, twice pipes, a serious lowering and some dechroming and it really looks cool. I love that bodystyle.

I was going to try to photoshop a nice mild custom with a longer carson top or a rag top and then scrolled down to see that Klaz had posted a pic of mostly what I had in mind, so I decided to start there.
Just a nice little chop to the windshield and find a top mechanism out of something similar in size then off to the upholsterer and you have a sweet little Hollywood era looking custom. Hell yes it could look fantastic.
Ok, in addition to all the rest of the work to bring it back to life - buts that fun....right?
Anything can be cool if you find the right look for it. Kinda try to think what the original designer probably had in his head, but then the boss forced him to put a big tall roof on it and make it sit like a 4wd.

Here it is a little more custom. I don't think it needs it tho - it looks more classic as a mild custom.
Think about man....what are chicks going to want a RIDE in more? A slick little custom or a gasser? They'll be beggin you!

Mine isn't cool yet but I do enjoy driving/working on it. Seems like I spend more time fixing it than doing cool stuff but I like the little idiosyncrasies that set it apart from Ford or Chevy. Interesting about the S-10 swaps. I have been thinking of eliminating the Ball and Trunion on the driveline.
Buy it and enjoy it.

Here is an old photoshop I did. Yeah I know it is kinda greaserbilly but fuck it.
