View Full Version : rear
A buddy called me tonight and asked if I wanted a free 9" rear that he has that was out of a 77 pickup. Is this rear the same width as a 52 ford truck rear end? He was not at home so he could not measure it and my car is in the garage. Also if this rear is the same width will the brakes interchange. Thanks

Ford 9-inch
Axle: ’77-’86 Ford 9-inch from Ford F-150, E-150 van, or fullsize Bronco
Lug pattern: 5-on-5 ½
Differential location: Centered
Width: 65 inches
Spring location: Spring-over 45 inches apart
Perch width: 2 ½ inches
Common ratios: 3.50:1 some have 4.10:1
Swap into: It’s wide but at least it has the right bolt pattern for CJs and some fullsize Jeeps. Perch relocation will be required.
Bonus tips: A 9-inch is lighter than a Dana 60 but probably not as strong in stock form. Check for 31-spline axles. Some two-wheel drives came with 28-spline shafts, however, they can be easily upgraded to 31s. The right and left shafts are the same length so only one spare would be needed, that is, if you can break one. Earlier 9-inch housings are not as strong.

Oh yeah, what Rashy said. Ford truck rearends up thru 72 should be same width, or close enough to fit, as 49 thru 52.
