What the hell is going on here? Been a couple weeks since I have checked the board, but man, why bother? Is there anybody building a car that is, lets say, on the edge? Must everybody follow one another or replicate what has been.....

Sure I like the flatties and have plenty banger parts here at the house, but can we get some hp here. Old school is old school, but, is that were hot rodding ends at this board?
I think hot rodding should be a forward progress thing, with memories of the past. Build them our old school style, but make them smoke the tires all the way up the grapevine.

I have never seen such a "stretch" of cars being built cause there "old school". Dangerous mateing and risky drivability 'cause a look must be acheived. No thanks.

If you build your car a way to suit yourself, such as seldomsene, cool, drive it and have fun, but if you want a hot rod, go for broke.

Hot rodding was based on the need for speed, now it seems to be the need to fit in..............

Oh yeah,, flatties rule.........ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!!!!

I don't understand this post. It just looks like a thinly disguised "what's a traditional hot rod?" post to me. I'm supposed to feel bad because I'm building a flathead powered car? Or maybe I missed the point entirely?

I was pretty stoked to see you start building that banger powered hot rod with the 2x3 frame a couple of years ago...at least I'm pretty sure that was you. I saw a picture of the frame finished with the motor mounted and then it just faded away. I want to see more of that...or why should I even bother to come back?

I agree to a point. That point being, all this is about is building cars that bring us smiles when we turn the key and step on the go pedal. That's what everyone is doing, except of course honda civic tuners that is. And while you are correct, the only way this part of the world (kustoms and rods) will survive is by a continual pushing of the creative envelope, it will still need people to build rods in the true old school ways and in the true old school fashions least they be lost to a fading memory forever... For me, i want to many cars to count. And at least one will be a traditional www rat rod.

we could make history repeat itself after the 60s cars comes jag rears covair front , camaro subframes fatfender cars with pink grafics next you know 80s cars will be cool , if we go to flordia and buy all the "street rods " now...... we can make a killin in 5 years when we sell!!!!!!!!

I'm with rogue... A lot of people here will tell you what you SHOULD build...

Just like the tatted rockerbilly with cuffed jeans who once came up to me at Bob's and told me what I NEEDED to do with my copper truck...

I cut him off mid sentance, told him I NEEDED to keep it well maintained and drive the shit out of it.

The unfortunate reality is that few on here are a Fritz or a Moriarty who can build the OUT THERE cool stuff, and most of us need a lot of coaching, so we get schooled on the "standard" recipes. WHICH, I am NOT knocking, I'm grateful for it. True innovation is difficult, takes a ton of talant, and years of prior experience to pull off. I'm not talking about small unique details, but more of the big overall picture of the whole car.

Take plowboy's space truck for example... No one would say a bad thing about it NOW, but I think I recall him getting some unwarranted shit for the idea initially. Which, thank god, he disregarded and flushed, and went forward with his vision.

I guess ya gotta have enough of the right pieces in front of you, AND have the lightbulb click on, all at the same time.

All that being said, I'd be as happy as a pig in shit with a fiberglass fad T with a chevy 350 up front! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I think hot rodding should be a forward progress thing . . .

Here is some forward progression for you . I'll bet it would whoop the ass of ANY hopped up model A regardless of what type of HP it was pulling . Fast is fast , and if you want to go REALLY fast , fucking around with 70 year old cars is not the way to do it . Anything else is copying the past and regurgitating up new ways to do the same old thing . Look cool trying to go fast in a slow car .

I dont care actually one way or another , I like big fat slow cars , so dont mind me http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Go for it dude. And fill us all in on the build up when you are finished.

[/ QUOTE ]

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but the last reason I wanted an old vehicle was to fit in. The only thing I need to fit into is my pants, and that gets harder and harder each day....

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree to some extent with this comment. Unsafe builds are stupid imo, but apparently my definition of "safe" and someone else's are most likely different. However, I doubt anyone intentionally sets out to build un-safe cars. It may just be that some don't know how or why to build a safe car.

Not that I am a lemming by any means, but I like traditional styled hot rods and customs. That's why I am here.

Kind of seems that way doesn't it?

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree. Mainly because the only thing I can have of this era vehicle is memories...see, I ain't old enough to know it all first hand. I am pretty much new to this vintage tin, and I'm not affraid to admit that I do not know a whole hell of a lot about this stuff. Just trying to learn as I go with a bit of help from the generous people that are here. And I believe that there are many more members here that are in the same situation as me.
However, I doubt there is anyone making you stay here. This place, like any other source of media, can be easily ignored if one does not care for the topics of conversation. If I don't like whats on t.v. I turn it off...If I don't like whats on the radio I listen to a CD...If I don't like what is being covered in a magazine I let my subscription run out...If I don't like what is going on here I stay away for awhile.

I'm not trying to be a dick or start anything...but you did ask a question.

Thank you, please drive through...

Let me tell you what I think. I am on this board because I like all cars. I like resto's, ratty rods, race cars, toy cars, monster cars, and VW's with young blond chickies inside.
I could give a damn less if you like my car. I like my car.I don't build them to any particular year, style or budget.
I won't bad mouth your car just like I won't bad mouth your wife.We can't all be the same , If I wanted that I'd play Golf.
Some of the most memorable moments have come at odd times in odd vehicles. I'm still looking for that ride in someones side car,And a hot air ballon would be great also.
I may put a 4 cyl, or a monster HP. engine in my A, what ever strikes me at the time I need it.

I do however appreciate what I learn on here and the way every one seems to help me with my questions.

Lets argue about important things ,like halter tops,BBQ,the price of Snickers bars or whatever.

Cheers.

rogue,

what was your point?

you want to see someone else building something different and fast so you can feel at home here with your flatheads? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm working on two cars,

one semi trad old school gow job that you can actually see daylight under,

that will be a fun little car, blasting down a dusty road or flying down the freeway.

the other is a semi serious custom rod with enough grunt to crack a smile a mile wide,

should get to at least bark at the big dogs if not run with them.

are you part of the sollution? or part of the problem? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have'nt been on this board very long, but I thought it was a board where all cars and car builders got together.
I know that I have learned a lot from this place and I'm not about to leave(unless someone throws me off, and then I'll go out fighting).
I do not agree with everyone and I don't think everybody does.
If everyone built the same thing, there would be no need for this place.
I have two v-8's and two six bangers and like all of them the same.
Just my 2 cents worth if anybody cares.

I'm stuck in the middle right now. I'm driving the Chevelle and it'll peg the speedometer at less than half throttle. At the same time I'm building a Model A coupe with a flatty. Speed is relative. Getting more out of a flatty is more fun right now. When I get that on the road, I'll probably put a built 572 in the Chevelle. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

People are building cars right now that they've been planning for some time...

I'll be building a flathead car next that will be fast for a flathead but I'm already thinking about the next car which will have considerably more power.

It's cyclical... People don't just crap out cars when the next whim hits them.

Although if you wouldn't just check in once in a while you'd see C9's roadster that will probably be plenty fast. And the Hokey Ass gassers that people are building for the drags, etc...

So show us what's up with the banger car. My f150 could smoke it but I'd still like to see what's up. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ryan has a great board here, more than half the members are good friends of mine, don't get me wrong. I think Stobe nailed it. The race cars of today are yesterdays hot rods even at your local dirt track. Why can't we build our cars the same way but to look "vintage"? Personally typing, when I go to a show, I look for ideas, but, the ones comming to the table can't be mentioned here. Cool. Now, why does it take 1/2 a million to see these ideas??

Simply put, I think most hamb guys have some great ideas, I've seen them first hand, but they are not here on the board. Why? Fucking lets see it, bring it, pull the hot rod card out big................... please....

I will probably never hear the end of this, someone who hardly ever posts on here is insulting a hamb hero. I personally think your elitist attitude sucks! People interpretations of hot rods are different. Everyone builds cars to their vision and skill level, Just because they dont possess your skills and your vision that makes it bad? I personally will agree with you I dont really like seeing rusted rpu bodies thrown on shaky frames, with what looks like a junkyard small block/flathead in it. But to some people that might be there dream hot rod that they probably put really hard work into. Dude dont get me wrong I am not trying to be a ----head I think you just need to keep things in perspective. Those people that are building those cars probably look at your cars and wish they had your fab skills.

Hemi, I here you bro. I don't consider myself much of a fabricater. Most of the bends on the new rpu were done in a hole in my pavment garage floor, while overindulging. My point in fact.

The wife tells me to not push my beliefs on others, but I see so many things that seem out of reach, but are right in front of so many builders. Just apply yourself and do it. If my dumb ass can build chassis components from a hole in the ground (literrally), anyony can push the envelope. I guess it's wether they choose to...........

dude, come up to my shop I have a tubing bender you can use any time. Time is a big issue when you are building a hot rod. That is one reason why my coupe is in such sorry shape. I was always hurrying to get stuff done for the next show. People always come by my shop and ask about how we did something thats neat, than I tell them how long it took, and they cant believe it. I am such a dumbass, that sometimes I will stare at something for an hour before I even start on it. Experience plays a big hand in hot rod building, when you have more experience, stuff just seems to come easier. You realized you needed bends, you knew from experience how you could do it. Most people dont have that eye until they get more experience. What it boils down to is trying and how bad do you want it. Like I said I wasnt trying to be a ----head, I better shut up I am starting to ramble.

My guess is that the people that THINK they are on the cutting edge do not post pics cause they think they'll get stolen. I'm just telling you to practice what you preach and step up with the cutting edge pictures. I'v got some cool ideas for my 32 coupe and as I build it I'll show pics. Maybe someone will chime in and tell me an idea is stupid or add one. That's what this place is about to me.

A big motor does not make a car cutting edge. Design makes a car cutting edge. Our modified isn't cutting edge. It is a "safe" car cause our goal was to build it quick and cheap. Try building a cutting edge car in 6 days for under a $1000. We used a 4 cyl. cause it was free plus I think it's cool. Besides the way we abuse it anything bigger and the bajo rear would be in peices in no time.

If you were just trying to inspire the masses you just said a few things wrong. Your post made you sound like you think you are better than the rest of us.

You guys should go run for mayor or something and leave Hot Rods alone.

Rouge for Mayor? Mayors are fucking gay. I don't want to be a Mayor, I just wanna be a Hot Rodder.

It's all about guidelines.
Some dudes set guidelines to set the bar higher,
others are happy to just to make the team.

Some dudes build cars with pure passion,
others build with their Dicks in Hand.

Some dudes are confused, these dudes think they're building with passion, but everyone else can see their passion is their dick.

All of these cars are nessasary, it seems alot of times I learn more from the cars I don't like than the ones I do. It's just as important to learn what NOT to do as to learn what to do.

I've set my bar so high at times I can't find anything to like, but I can always find stuff I don't like. Which is almost as good..........

It's kind of like chics. Every once in awile you find one that knocks your socks off, while most of them are just Fucking Ugly.

BUT, you have to appreciate the ugly ones, otherwise there would be nothing to judge the pretty ones against.

See, it's simple.

Just shut the fuck up and build something cool.

It might knock some dudes socks off, while others will think its fucking ugly.

I like to JACK OFF with FRUIT, when I use a TRADITIONAL fruit such as a ROTTEN APPLE, I put it in the MICROWAVE, HIT the ROCK COCAINE in my AIR FRESHNER turned GLASS PIPE.......

Then when the FRUIT is NICE and HEATED, I fuck it, and the POWER of the ARDUN JUICED MEAT STICK, releases the SMELL from the FRICTION that reminds everyone why they love GRANDMAS fucking APPLE PIE,,

I'm, SO TRADITIONAL, I jack off Like the 40's BARBER named SAMUAL, SKIN to SKIN, while the open PALM fields will SHINE MAN TO MAN.....

Dude, microwaves are not traditional. You need to stick the fruit in the fire, and then fuck it.

Cheaters go for the Chakita brand.

Did you ever get to see Mallory naked?

Hemi Coupe I'll be back soon. I wanna go for a ride in that coupe. I'd challenge you to a race, but I'd loose. HaHa
I'm sure I've met Tom, but I don't pay much attention to that car club stuff.

Thanks, Bob

Bob bleed, next time you come out here, I will take you for a ride in my coupe, and put your ass to work in my shop. The Sinners arent really a car club, It started along time ago with all the motorcycle guys.I think me,Cole,rf and skinny Jeff are the only ones that lean more towards the car side. Its basically a big group of friends with a common interest. I just moved into a bigger shop so I finally have room to work on my own cars. I am going to fix a bunch of f-ed up stuff on my coupe.

P.s I think some of the cheaters know Tom.

All i can say is I like the board because of the traditional ways you folks build your rides. It keeps "customs" as they are, and it allows those old ways to be passed on to the next guy to keep the "Sport" going. I know there are more modern ways of doing things ("Gold-Chainer ways), but if it worked back in the 50's, it works for me today.

Building cars of the past keeps everthing more simple to keep up and less spending in the $$$ department.

When you post your rides and express the hard work/effort put into them, that is what brings more appreciation to the work I see. The back yard wrencher, the garage builder...Isnt that how it was back in the day????

I enjoy the cars and build them with a passion. Every Idea, know they have been done before, and actually seeing in its complete form gives me a great feeling towards the word "traditional"

Sure we all dont have pre 60's rides, but the spirit is what keeps us going. All the rides have the past "flared" into them...thats what makes em special and noticing. History on wheels.!!!!

I have met a few HAMB'ers over time and the attitude is what keeps brining me back to the "sport." I have done my share of imports, mini-truckin and nothing compares to the brotherly attitude here; the help, and desire to help others to get thier rides on the road.

Isnt that what its all about?

"Its Passion that keeps it traditional"
