so i'm reading through my new compilation book of the first 12 issue of Hop Up and right there in the "Technical Tips" section there is a question about putting a Cad in a Chevy. so i'm reading it and then at the end of the editors response he suggests contacting FRANK BURRELL at 17607 Ferguson Ave Detroit Michigan to have him make a conversion for the Cad to Chev. could this be our very own Fab32??? is he realy THAT old?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif i sure did'nt think so but i guess he could be. whats the scoop Frank, is this you they mention in the very first ever issue of Hop Up magazine?? if so i want your friggin autograph http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif...

RELAX GUYS, I live in Bay City as you know. I don't know about this particular FB but there was an origional Frank Burrell from the Detroit area that was part of organizing drag racing in that area and was a member of the club that started Detroit Dragway I believe. I never had the honor of meeting him but from some of the old timers from that area I have talked to he was an engineering genius, built the first set of timing light that were used at the strip and could design and build just about anything imaginable. I've always been interested in finding out if there is a family connection as a few generations back members of my family moved from the New york/ Pennsylvania area (where I'm from) and settled in Detroit.
Anyway the man mentioned could very well be his son or grandson. Interesting.

Boy this is getting out of hand. If anyone has a copy of the 50th Aniversery program for the Detroit Autorama there is a small story about the Frank Burrell refered to in Hop Up.

Roadstar probley does have a copy not to mention he probley knows the guy your talking about personally cuz he's a member of that club. I believe that club is 50 years old this year or next cuz in Autorama '05 that club is going to have a display. Anyway, I'm sure Roadstar will throw his 2 cents in here sometime tonight.

Roadstar might have known him. How long has he been a member? The gentleman in question passed away a few years ago.

Yes, indeed Frank Burrell was the man.
Involved with the MHRA(Michigan Hotrod Association) since its inception in the 50's until his passing in the early 80's.
He was the MHRA treasurer for many years and very active locally. He was a member of the MMAC (MotorCity Modified Auto Club) for over 30 years.
I've been a member of the MillWinders since the late 80's and never had the pleasure of meeting Frank, but he is still spoken very highly of today. From what I
recall he was an engineering whiz and The Caddy adapter was a well received achievement for the time.
I would like add to all this, The Frank Burrell here on the HAMB is quite a talented individual in his own right, and it's and honor to know him and be his friend.
