Here's the scoop....this car belonged to a local hot rodder, Bill Jones, who passed away. It ended up in my shop to save it from the crusher. I was trying to figure out what to do with it and concluded that Bill would be ok to use the car to support the HAMB. I think this would make a great first project.

Let me start by saying the wood is SHOT!! These cars are heavily wooded so I need to be clear that this wood is ROTTEN!!!
Outside of that, the car is 99% complete, the sheetmetal is awesome..hardly any rust, and the drivetrain is in tact and complete. I figure this car has some unique lines and would be a good one to chop up into a pickup, or cut into a tub. Just know that the rotten wood and should be replaced with steel.
Also, I'm sure that Pontiac restorers would be more than happy to buy the unused parts 'cause all of the metal on the car is solid.

So here is the deal...let's open the bid at $20. You must be willing to pick the car up at my place. At the end the Auction, send the money to Ryan and I'll wait for him to confirm receiving the payment. After that, you are free to pick the car up. I'll help with the loading.

Good Luck!!!!

By the way...this Auction will end on Father's day (June 20th) at 10pm CST.

50 bucks, So I can park it in my yard next to the roadster. I'd like to see the look on the apartment managers face when I cram another car in my little yard.

Cody,
it could be a '30. It didn't come with a title and his wife told me it was a '28. I haven't researched it at all.

28Poncho mentioned in his intro post that his 28 had an oval window or he elluded to that anyway. Either way its freaking cool!

I'm not the Pontiac expert by any means, but I believe it is the early '28 body.... It appears to have carriage lines like the early Model A, whereas mine is smooth, and the cowl lights are different and in a different location from mine. I believe all early Pontiacs had the oval rear window. I read in a book somewhere that Pontiac had 2 versions of the 28.... The easiest way to tell is from the vin #. The vin # can be found in 3 places, 1. A stamped brass tag on the rear crossmember, just under the gas tank filler neck, 2. Stamped in the top of the frame rail under the right front fender, 3. Stenciled in white paint on the side of the left frame rail just under the door.

I would love to buy this one, but my ol lady said if I'd drag another car home I would be castrated... Whoever gets it can PM me, there are a few restorers I know of that may be interested in the stock parts....

I'll post a few pics for inspiration...

06-11-2004, 03:51 PM
I saw this sedan up close and I wanted it bad! I's really got some cool lines. I'd be all over it if I didn't have so many other projects already. (Rocky syndrome http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif) Actually, I don't thnk I have too many projects, just not enough space in the yard.

Junkyard Dog 32

My money would be on it being a '29 1/2 or '30.
They came out with the oval rear window in '29, but the hood louvers run vertical on the '29 1/2.
Also, they came with 12 spoke wheels in '28, not the ten spoke like this one.
If you have the visor, that should tell all.

Either way, it looks like it's in great shape.
Good on ya, HOTWHEEL.

I just made a deal on a '30 Poncho fordor, and a '28 Poncho coupe, so it sure would round out the collection...

I'll have to pass, though... dammit!

How about like this? Quarter the window and section it, then chop the top and put it back in.

I would be all over this thing if I were closer.

KCsledz
06-15-2004, 09:47 AM
If the price didn't get out of my current means I would have looked at it like chopping an A pickup if you wanted to keep the back window.

You cut the pillars and around the rear section at the same horizontal and then at the back window you cut a box up and around it taking the meat out of the section above the window. Something like the picture below.

KCsledz
06-15-2004, 11:58 AM
then it could look like this...

junkmonger
06-15-2004, 09:13 PM
Yeah, that's what I started with, but quickly realized that if you want more than a 2 inch chop, you'd have to cut the window.

Rocky
06-15-2004, 11:12 PM
You could do a 8 inch chop on it and replace the back glass with an oval 1/4 window from a Lincoln MK IV.....maybe even leave the "Bill Blass" designation on it for grins.........
or not.....

Calling you out , Rocky...

$425

Rocky

Well then, you might just have it. Just a few hours left. Will I attempt to snipe it? Will Pancho sneak in with an auction uppercut? Stay tuned kiddies.

06-21-2004, 01:22 AM
Well Crow, it looks like you are the proud owner of the Poncho!! I can't wait to see this thing on the road! Let's see if we can make the first ride in it over to visit Bill's widow and by to see his old car buds! They would be real, real proud to see it regardless of how you build it.
Thank ya man!!j

crow
06-21-2004, 04:11 AM
May take me quite a while to get this thing goin', got a few in line ahead of it, but I will make that promise, Reggie; the first ride is to see Bill's widow with you riding shotgun, or driving, we'll hafta flip for it.

06-21-2004, 09:55 AM
Congrats, Crow. I lost power last night due to a tornado passing by about 2 miles away or I'd have bid again. We were lucky. Just minor damage around the place. Thursday night we got blasted hard by golfball-sized hail so we were still cleaning up from that. Guess my summer plans have been changed by this weather anyway. Have fun with the car! Pancho

Rocky
06-21-2004, 08:08 PM
Congrats Crow. I also really wanted it but I already have a few projects in the wings. And Kc Sleds, be glad you didn't get this poncho for a first project. It's waaaaay to big a project for a first-timer.
