Hi all, I just signed up for the HAMB. Some of you may have seen my photos of Kurt McCormick's Barris Kustiom collection on my Fotki site. I have over 9000 images, mostly vintage hot rod and custom car related, and i just added over 300 photos of the first annual Billetproof Motor City Mania event in Michigan, including the Silver Sapphire (AKA the Beach Boys Little Deuce Coupe), which drove in under it's own power! (Never thought I'd see that one get down and dirty! You will find the link to more below the photos.

Ray, it was an honor to meet you. Your car was a moving tribute to the stripers who have gone before us. I just wish I had some better lighting when I shot your car.

Hi Nick. I have a 57 Ford F-100 shortbed, with the small rear window.

It's running a Y Block, and it's gonna stay that way. Saving up for some Smithys and some pipe bending so I can put my Ram Horn exhaust manifolds on. A Fenton tripower will compliment the Fenton Rocker Covers, and then some black primer, flames, and reversed eye springs. With any luck, it will look like this when it's done. I did that to my truck in Photoshop.

or maybe this...

(It's faster, easier, and cheaper to do it in Photoshop, unfortunately.)
So that's my rig. (I wanted a 27 roadster on Deuce rails, but somebody beat me to it with the money.) Now about me.
I'm 43, and live in Davenport, Iowa. It's a decent sized city, and we host a number of car clubs here. Tomorrow the Hot Rod Power Tour will be here, and my truck will be parked across the street.
My taste and knowledge of cars and music are beyond my years, as I have brother who is 12 years older than I am, and he turned me on to Hot Rods and albums such as The Ventures In Space,
http://images3.fotki.com/v33/photos/4/41647/104099/TheVenturesInSpace-vi.jpg
Jan & Dean's Golden Hits, and The Beach Boys Little Deuce Coupe. I heard 'em all first hand when they were new, and still love them now. In school I spent most of my time drawing cars, building models, and reading books by Henry Gregor Felsen, and those like him.
My mom helped fuel my love of all things old with books like Henry's Wonderful Model T, and almost any magazine I ever asked for. When I was 12, she brought home a box of old Hot Rod magazines from a garage sale every issue from 1957 to 1966.
Around the same time, Rod Action did their Custom Car issue, and Rod & Custom did their 20th anniversary issue. I was hooked! I discovered that the funny looking car on my brother's old Model A kit was real car called the Ala Kart.
I knew George Barris's name from the old trophy kits, but wow. The Hirohata Merc, and the Rod & Custom Dream Truck floored me. Just two years ago, I had the pleasure of accompanying Damon Bell from Publications International to visit Kurt McCormick in St Louis. PI was preparing a new book called Hot Rod Chronicle, and I hooked them up with Kurt so they could shoot the Dr Wetzel Roadster.

Spending two days with Kurt and Amy was a real dream. And speaking of Dreams...

That last one is of an overgrown kid in the candy store from Davenport.
Another biggie was American Graffiti. I don't think I even need to go into that one. I think we all went bonkers over that movie. I saw it 5 times at the theater.
(Am I boring you yet? How bout a picture of my girlfriend with some dork from Davenport?)

That was from our second visit to St Louis, where Kurt turned us on to the Botanical Gardens. Wow, what a place! And yes, I hope to get back to St Louis again soon. I'll give this a wrap, but I will leave you with a few more pics, and a promise to post more stuff that I hope you will think is cool. This is my friend Dave Southwick's 29 A hiboy, that was built by Dutch Eshelman. You might recognize it from the April 1990 issue of Rod & Custom.

And lookit this 62 Injun from Muscatine! On whitewall cheater slicks, no less.... You'll find that in the Ramblin Rodders Album...

Hey Dave,
Glad to see you on the HAMB or rather... your pictures. I used to frequent your Photopoint website and loved looking at all the pictures you had. I see your collection of photos has grown immensely. I really enjoyed looking at all the pictures of the R&C Dream Truck. I have always admired that truck. I've seen it in person a couple of times, but that's never enough. Years ago I started building my own model of it, but other interests has kept me from finishing it. Mark Gustavson has one a build-up that he intends to have cast in resin, but who knows when that will ever happen. Another resin caster has his own build-up and will probably be cast soon. I will most likely buy both of them when they are for sale, but I will build my own. Anyway, glad to see you hear.
