Hmmmm....
Is it possible this seat might have historical value? Perhaps it's from the missing aircraft "L'Oiseau Blanc" (the White Bird), a French plane that was trying for the first city to city (Paris to New York) crossing of the Atlantic by an aircraft in May of 1927. It was flown by French WW1 aces Charles Nungesser and François Coli. It was lost and never found, presumably in the mid-Atlantic, but an aircraft was heard over Newfoundlands remote southern coast at the time they should have passed over!

IF that seat were from "L'Oiseau Blanc", it would be priceless.

Could be the seller made the story up hoping to cash in on the notoriety of the "L'Oiseau Blanc" in hopes of driving the price up.
To me it looks too new, but you just never know with this kinda stuff...
Considering where it was supposedly found I'd have to get that checked out before I cut it up!!!

Perhaps you could try the US aeronautical museum or whatever its called. Email them some pictures and what you know of the year and location of the discovery.
Mention "L'Oiseau Blanc" and you'll get some attention! LOL

Might not be anything to get excited over but at the very least you MIGHT get some info on what you have and where to pick up another matching one!
If you had a plane make and model to look for that job should be a little easier at least!
