What is the trick? I've been studying the '53 Vic but my simple mind can't seem to discern HOW exactly the stainless driprail trim comes off.
I mean, I could get it off... don't get me wrong, but I'd like to be able to use it again.
I'm going to strip the car to bare metal & this is standing in my way.
Thanks.

I've been told a bottle opener with tape wrapped around the end works, but every time I've tried it I've messed up the trim http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I've been successful with very small screwdrivers...

Not sure if it is held on the say way, but on my dads '67 Mustang, I used paint mixing sticks (the free ones from the paint store). Lightly tap the lower edge of the trim with the paintstick and a hammer. Work your way down and it should come off.
Anyone know how to put it back on??? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I havent figured that part out yet.

<font color="green"> I've done some the same way.
Well, I cut up a free yardstick and used the pieces but same idea/material.
Just don't get in a hurry, work back and forth if you have to.
It will crimp easily so take baby steps.

Randy: I pulled that stuff of my 64 Caddy and man it was a pain to get off without bending it. I think it was rolled on with a special tool at the factory so think about what you want to do with it before removing it.

I used the taped bottle opener on my dad's 70 chevelle. It worked, but I had to go super slow and be very careful.
