The "Nightmare" HA/GR made the first sucessfull test and tune this past Saturday night.
I pulled it all the way to Georgia for the "Run What You Brung" run and it fell on it's face every time I tried to leave the line. 60' times were in the five and six second range.
Brought it back home and pulled the dual intake off and installed a factory 2 bbl intake and built another set of "headers".
First pass off the trailer was a 15.26 at 91 mph with the tires spinning through second and half way through third.
Second pass was a 15.21 at 90.4 mph with 26 lbs of air in the tires.
Third pass, dropped the air pressure down to 24 lbs, it was 15.12 at 91.3 mph.
Dropped air presssure down to 22 lbs and on the fouth pass, she ran a 14.82 at 91.4 mph.
I never did get the tires to stop spinning in second gear.
I know there is more in the car and will find it as time passes. I really do not think this is too bad as this is a stock motor with a two bbl carb and homemade headers on a 1600 lb car.
Hopefully by the HAMB drags we will be a little faster, but if not, I look forward to competeing against one and all of the other HA/GR's.

Here are the ones from the race at Georgia, I do not have a pic with the single carb on it as of yet.

Car is looking good.
Weigh the car and check the weight ratio front to rear. Thats look like the tire spin issue...

Just keep at it. These things take some seat time to get things sorted out. You'll get faster.

I'm gonna keep at it, do not worry. As far as I'm concerned, this is part of the fun of running one of these, trying to get all you can out of it.
It is running a tad rich and I'm running out of top end. It is pulling 5000 just before the end of the 1/4.
Next trip, I will change tires, to change gearing and plan on running the carb without a breather and lean it out a little bit.
I will keep everyone posted as I progress.
Thanks, Robert

I can see some of your traction problem in those pictures. If you make the runs on the pavement instead of the grass, it will hook up better.

Just kidding, the car looks neat, get some pictures with the tires smokin'.

You must not notice where I'm from, Redneck country, we always run on grass. What in the world do ya'll run on? The only pavement we have is the highway!:D:D
I'm hoping to run at an 1/8 mile track Thursday if it does not rain, They are calling for 50% and that usually means it's gonna rain. Got the taller tires on it and will see what difference that makes.

Heck, as long as we have treaded tires, why can't we run in the rain?:)

It is just too slippery in the rain on grass to turn off at the end.

OK, we made the test/tune run last night at an 1/8 mile track. Unfortunately, they scrapped the track and removed any good surface that was there previously.
First run spun all the way through second and third, slammed it in fourth 100' out and it bogged.
Came back the second round, spun hard in second, a little in third and stopped in fourth.
Got the tires down to 20 lbs and made the third run. Calculated it for the 1/4 and came up with a 14.41 et and 99.65 mph. Now I can't wait until I can go back to the 1/4 mile track and see what happens. It still spun in second off the line and I believe that was due to the poor track conditions, as everyone was spinning when they left.
My youngest son went with me and carried his 64 Mustang with a mildly built 200ci with a c-4 and ran me one time. Talk about having fun, there is nothing like lining up at the start line with one of your kids!! Of course, I spanked his butt.
He said he had never heard his car squall the tires and it did in first and in second. So I know track conditions were pretty poor.

DAMN!!! It sounds like you guys are having a ball. If I ever get the parts I have on order I'll be joining you at the starting line. I can't wait!!!!

Godzilla, did you ever get yours to the track?

I am going to drag it to Tulsa next weekend. May run it...may not, I have not decided. I'm going to help the Gasser guys more than anything else. I may have to bolt pontoons on it and go boat racing again....I can't remember that last day that it did not rain.
