As promised, I went out to the garage with a fully charged digi camera and clicked off a few photos of what your 47 Chibbie would look like with several different tailights. First off is one with a 49 chevy passenger car tailight..bluedot optional.....

The empty 49-50 chevy bezel fits the contour of the old poncho/chevy pretty close...maybe 1/8th inch gap in the center of the bezel and it fits even better up higher on the body if this rows yer boat...

Difference between 49 [flat] and 50 humped lens. The rest of the tailight parts are identical... I have a pair of both if you're interested.

I tried a 51-52 Pontiac tailight too. They're a little bigger than the 48-50 tailights and have lighter red plastic lenses. The chrome bezels are pitted on my pair.

If you go for a pair of 48 Pontiac fastback tailights for your coupe, they don't fir eggsactly right. While the inside radius of the bezel fits against the body just fine.........

...To have the light pointing straight back, you'll end up with a gap like this on the outside radius....gotta fill it.
Rocky

that gap is about 1/4" toward the top of the light bezel. If you're lucky enough to score a pair of coupe, sedan or rag-top bezels, the contour of the bezel will be spot-on..

Ahahahaha...you like the vw lites eh? Here's what they look like inside. The wire bail holds the light assembly into it's sheetmetal housing.........

And here's what they look like assembled on the outside...The chrome bezel has some cheap black spray paint on it but you get the idear....the sheetmetal housing can be trimmed down to go against about any contour, I guess.
I'll PM ya about them...
