Another one!

I don't push hot rods onto my kids.I want them to grow up and have thoughts and opinions of their own.... find their own passion. I take them to car shows, ask em to help, but I have never MADE them do anything hot rod related...

My daughter is 13. She ran cross country. Played basketball. Ran track. 3.8 GPA (honors classes too). She'll do homework everynight until I tell her to go to bed. She wants to go to summer school next year to take 2 classes before she starts high school, so she can be in band her freshman year (she plays a mean clarinet).

She showed up yesterday in the garage. Asked a million questions. Wanted to help... I have an image burned permanantly into my brain of my "little girl", with grease covering her hands, sweat on her brow, blowing her hair out of her eyes while taking the pedals out of a chassis to put into the hot rod...

I walked past her bedroom today. "Heading out to the garage Dad?"

"Sure am"

Couple minutes later, she was out there.

"Sweetie, hand me the ratchet with the 9/16th's"

"Righty tighty, lefty loosey??"

"Yep"

"I'll do it Dad"

They all like em now...

it's cool that your daughter is into helping you and shows an interest in cars. it's also cool that you're pushing her into it, a lot of parents do that shit whether it's sports, acting, etc. good parenting on your part there Killer.

I have a 2 year old and she goes berserk if she can be in the garage with me. If I pick up a screw driver, so does she, Ill start a screw and she will sit for days trying to get it out, little by little. Its nice to see that our children learn about the automotive aspect of it and enjoy it to...by our sides.

Thats great - now she will be able to out wrench the little tuner shits. In the future she wont go out with the Honda crowd just the hotrodders!

That's cool, Jason... I let my son buy a 50 ford club coupe when he turned 15. Told him I'd help him build it [the way he wanted to] AFTER all his home work was done IF his grades were good. That old ford helped keep him off the streets and helped us bond through those tough teenage years. That was 15 years ago and he still has that coupe...in his own 3 car detatched garage complex!
I honestly believe both of us working on that car together helped him stay on the straight&amp;narrow when some of his buddies got in deep trouble.
I still have precious video of us building the 400 sbc for it and narrowing the rear frame rails. We're still best friends and I gotta believe finding a common interest when he was a teenager helped.alot!

and went to all the shows and swap meets with me,

now she's grown and moved to another city.

sure miss it sometimes.
